- Several video codecs support the alpha channel, allowing you to save videos with transparency information. This is particularly useful for maintaining transparency when exporting videos with effects, compositing or animations. Here are some popular video codecs that support the alpha channel. QuickTime Animation Codec. The QuickTime Animation Codec is widely used for animations and video compositing. Apple ProRes 4444. ProRes 4444 is another codec developed by Apple that supports an alpha channel. It offers high quality video with lossless compression and is often used for professional video production and post-production. DNxHD and DNxHR with Alpha. Abbott's DNxHD and DNxHR Codecs can also support an alpha channel.
