- When I coach people, I'm making the switch to better learning strategies, the biggest mistake they make is not having a plan or failing to follow through. Unlike painting a wall or building a sidewalk, learning doesn't have this immediate sense of accomplishment. It's hard to see your progress. Creating a plan to learn at the right time can not only help you stay on track, but can also help keep you motivated. One common pitfall is procrastination. It's human nature to choose immediate over long-term gratification. And what's more gratifying? Checking the latest text or newsfeed or working on the project that isn't due until next week or even next month.
