But we love seeing CISA help us drive one important point home – enforcing a password manager protects your business! In the short term, CISA recommends you require employees to use strong, unique passwords to access your systems. In the long term, you should provide an enterprise-level password manager (👋) for your employees. Of course, we couldn’t agree more. 🛡️ CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH | PASSWORDS 🛡️ According to Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance, using an easy-to-guess password is like locking the door but leaving the key in the lock. The good news is that strong passwords are one of the easiest ways to protect your online accounts from compromise. Here are three tips CISA has to help strengthen your password structure: • Longer is Stronger: Passwords with at least 16 characters are harder to crack. • Hard to Guess: Use a random string of mixed upper-and-lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. If you need to memorize a password, create a memorable “passphrase” of 5-7 unrelated words. You can also get creative with spelling and/or add numbers or symbols to your passphrase. • One of a kind: Use a unique password for each online and mobile account. One other reminder is to never give out your usernames and passwords to anyone. And, remember: NWSB employees will *NEVER* call to ask you for this private information. If anyone ever calls and asks you for your username and password to any website, the best thing you can do is hang up the phone. Don't engage. Just hang up.
