Head of Marketing @ Envysion | B2B SaaS Marketer focused on Brand Visibility, Go To Market Strategy, & Driving Growth | Leading an Agile Marketing Team
Reposting this in hopes to get more visibility. I hear the job market is tough out there - but I’m finding, so is recruiting! I'm hopeful that someone will see this post and pass it around and there will be more people interested in this Product Marketing role. It appears that the Product Marketing role is a fairly new role within the marketing department. Oddly, there have been very few resumes submitted. Of course, there has to be a reason for that. Maybe people are not seeing the posting, which I'm hoping by reposting and encouraging to share will help get this in front of more people looking for a product marketing role. The reason I’m making this assumption of product marketing being a fairly new role within marketing is due to the resumes that are coming in. They either… >have nothing to do with marketing - ok, I get that people switch careers, but, add a cover letter to let the recruiter know and maybe a bit about why you want to step into a marketing career. >have a background in product development but no marketing - I can see the correlation, but this is not a product development role, nor is it a product management role. This is a product marketing role with a lot of writing, storytelling, positioning, messaging, market research, developing marketing campaigns.... >have zero product marketing experience - again, I think a digital campaign manager could make a good fit, but, it seems that those resumes are getting lost in the shuffle because there is nothing on the resume that matches the job description. A cover letter could also help with this switch from running paid ads to product marketing. With all of that said, I’m hoping another share of this role will create more interest and spread the word. I don’t think a cover letter is necessary in all situations, but if the resume doesn’t at least resemble the job description, I think it’s a good supporting document. I also understand there could be other variables as to why so few resumes have been submitted such as salary range (hoping this is in the range for the role!), location (would prefer the person to be in or near Denver, CO), or even industry (That is what it is! And it's pretty cool!). Let me know if I’m missing the boat on this. Looking forward to growing this amazing team!

🚀 Product Marketing @ Elation Health | 🩺 Helping PCPs spend less time on administrative tasks, and more time caring for patients.
Don't make the mistake of hiring Product Marketing Managers... ...solely for the sake of filling content, project, or marketing roles. #ProductMarketing is about TACTICS, STRATEGY, and VISION. If you need a different skill set, that's fantastic! But it's crucial to understand the essence of product marketing before crafting a job description. Product Marketing Managers should be actively involved in shaping the strategy and vision of the products they work on. #ProductMarketing #Marketing

Head of Product Marketing at Workhuman | I establish and grow product marketing teams at b2b saas scale ups
Totally agree with this. There's so much pressure on every marketing team to prove ROI. But for PMM's, the most important work is to be helpful. Don't worry about whether another team owns a KPI. Instead, focus on driving value for the business cross functionally.
⚡ I help you understand and communicate with your customers. Freelance Product + Content Marketing Leadership
Product marketing is a team sport. You don't need to be the superstar, but you do need to be the best at helping your team succeed. Here's what I mean 👇 ⚡ At its most basic, product marketing is responsible for channeling product, marketing, and customer information into all of the most useful places in the business. ⚡ We don't usually "own" any KPIs, instead, we're responsible for understanding and impacting almost all KPIs in the business indirectly. ⚡If those are the basic facts of life as a PMM, it's obvious that you can't get any of that done if you're not focused first and foremost on being a team player. ⚡Outside of any of the functional aspects of product marketing, having the mindset of a team player is critical. Your team has to know that you're invested in their success. You need to spend time sitting on calls with the sales team, looking at tickets with the success team, planning the roadmap with the product team, etc. These things aren't a distraction from the work. They're actually *the work*. I'll wrap this up with a 🔥hot take 🔥 If I were a hiring manager, particularly right now, I'd put being an adaptable, curious team player at the very top of my list of desired skills. Far above any functional skills or work history. #b2bmarketing #productmarketing

The best experience for a product marketer is being part of a growing company. It can be $0-100m, $100-500m, $500m to 1b or beyond. Every growth stage will present challenges and will require creativity in positioning and GTM design including a deep understanding of buyers, market dynamics, and where you have a strategic moat (or the one you need to build). That’s where you’ll feel super uncomfortable and energized at the same time. I was reminded of that yesterday as I was riffing with a friend on these exact topics. You know who you are 😉 That’s the magic in #productmarketing 🪄and why it’s the best job in marketing (according to me). I’m hiring too. See link in the first comment. #hiring

Last week a competitor posted a product marketing lead position… what did I do? ✅ Read the description, duh ✅ Took some insights from it, duh Then… I shared it in two CI/PMK communities I belong too and then… I referred two candidates. WTF? Why refer great candidates to a competitor? ❤️ I love that more orgs in my industry are hiring product marketing experts! #yestoproductmarketing 👯♀️ I want more competitors to hire product marketers! It highlights the importance of product marketing discipline and shows that our industry is moving forward. 🤼♀️ Competition is healthy and makes us all better! (And, I’m competitive, I want some more product marketing comp in the space!) #truestory Moral of the story… competition is healthy and we all need a positive culture of compete!
