"AI is not a nice to have; it's a necessity," says Pushmeet Kohli of Google DeepMind. In today's world, a single human mind can't comprehend the vast data we gather. AI steps in to fill this gap, making sense of complex data in fields like biology and genomics. Pushmeet joins a16z general partner, Vijay Pande, PhD, to discuss "industrialized" biology. Traditionally, biology labs have been manual and labor-intensive. AI, robotics, and other advanced technologies are now transforming these spaces, making processes more efficient and data-driven ultimately reducing time and costs. 🌐 Revolutionizing Material Discovery with AI: The Game-Changing GNoME 🚀 I remember more than a decade ago, our brightest material scientists at Intel Corporation spending a long time with experiments to come up with the right materials that enabled a breakthrough to move from 2D to 3D transistors (aka FinFET technology). Enter Google DeepMind! It's latest innovation, GNoME, is a groundbreaking AI tool set to revolutionize materials science. Mimicking the transformative impact of AlphaFold in biology, GNoME uses deep learning to predict structures for over 2.2 million new materials. With more than 700 materials already created in labs, this tool is redefining speed and efficiency in material discovery. 🤖 In a synergistic collaboration, Berkeley Lab's A-Lab, an autonomous laboratory, harnesses GNoME's findings. It integrates robotics and machine learning to synthesize these materials, propelling forward industries like energy and computing. 💡 One of the most promising applications? Developing more efficient lithium-ion battery conductors, a critical component for clean energy solutions. 🤔 What are your thoughts on AI's expanding role in scientific research and innovation? #AI #MachineLearning #DeepMind #MaterialScience #AIInnovation Lila Ibrahim Thomas Marieb Pat Gelsinger
