Margaret Mead, a famous anthropologist once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." In a world where the #environment often faces daunting challenges, it's heartening to remember that heroes walk among us—everyday people with extraordinary passion and dedication, making a real difference in the #health and #vitality of our planet. Rajendra Singh, the "#Waterman of India," has revitalized over 12 water bodies, replenishing aquifers and nurturing ecosystems for over three decades. Jadav Payeng, the "Forest Man of India," transformed barren land into a 1350-hectare #forest, showcasing the power of one person's commitment to #biodiversity. Lalita Mukati, an organic #farming pioneer, champions sustainable agriculture in Madhya Pradesh, proving the benefits of working in harmony with #nature. In Penglipuran village, Indonesia, generations practice #environmental stewardship, showing us that living in harmony with nature can create a cleaner, greener future. These stories remind us that change begins with each one of us. So let's take inspiration from these incredible individuals and join together in the journey to protect and preserve our #planet, one small act of kindness at a time. Together, we can make a world of difference. 🌍💚 #earthday #inspiration #changemakers #waterconservation #climatechange #savewater #environment MoEF&CC w. bharat singh

Camels: Heroes of deserts and highlands, nourishing people and culture. Deserts - including all its value chains and bio-socio-cultural protocols, are the most excluded bioregions, world over. Pastoralism within this context, has significantly taken the brunt of rampant centralised and capital driven development paradigms. Over the last 5 years, value-chain based ecosystem development efforts by Bahula Naturals have initiated revival of pastoral food production systems across the arid and semi arid regions particularly in the Thar Desert. We have worked very closely with various partners in innovating solutions, organising the pastoral milk value chains and decentralisation of technology, infrastructure and capital for developing a #netzerocarbon dairy. With FAO officially launching 2024 as the much awaited International Year of Camelids, we look forward to the opportunities and conversations steering around these gentle giants of the deserts. This month, International Day of Forests reminds us of the need to plant not only trees but also evergreen ideas. In recent times, we've witnessed the undeniable impact of the increasing human population on our natural environment. The growing proximity between manufacturing facilities and urban centres underscores the importance of finding a balance between development and conservation. Aligned with our commitment towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, AM International Holdings Private Limited's businesses are implementing measures aimed at promoting biodiversity. Under the CSR initiatives of Manali Petrochemicals Ltd., we're implementing innovative approaches to urban afforestation such as the Miyawaki method of plantation. Through AM Foundation and in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation, our initiative is leveraging this Japanese technique, championed by botanist Dr. Akira Miyawaki. It emphasises the rapid growth of dense forests in limited spaces, presenting a viable solution to urban challenges. The Miyawaki method has gained traction across India, with numerous cities and municipalities adopting this approach to combat deforestation and mitigate the effects of climate change. By planting a diverse array of native species, we can not only enhance biodiversity but also create resilient ecosystems for the future. As responsible corporate citizens, it's imperative for us to engage with all stakeholders to develop modern, pragmatic solutions to environmental challenges. Contributing to and managing biodiversity is vital to ensure that businesses do not miss the forest for the trees. So, this World Forestry Day, let's renew our pact with the planet. Together, let's cultivate a culture of environmental stewardship and protect the beauty and bounty of nature. By watering the collective wisdom of diverse stakeholders, we can lay the groundwork for a better future. UN SDG Action Campaign #WorldForestryDay #EnvironmentalStewardship #Sustainability

Over the last two years, we’ve been working hard to return regenerative cotton to Indonesia’s Eastern provinces through our Mama Kapas project. As a way to provide additional incomes for mothers during the dry season – and to replenish and heal their soils. Seeing just how affected many regions of Indonesia already are by climate change, going back to regenerative agroforestry wisdom of our ancestors seems more important than ever. With simple practices that make women farmers more resilient against drought and erosion. From July to September of this year, Bertram Flesch and Denica Riadini-Flesch have visited all of our seven cotton growing communities in Eastern Indonesia. You can read the whole story on our newest blog: https://lnkd.in/g8sqry4U #blog #climatecrisis #climatemitigation #climatechange #womenempowerment #indonesia #sustainability #fieldupdates #regenerativeagriculture

The United Nations alarms that a third of the world's soil is already degraded. This could perhaps lead to a staggering 30% loss in food production over the next 20-50 years. BYD and forest initiative is more than just a tree plantation campaign. Utilizing Miyawaki technology, this initiative proves effective in enhancing soil quality by creating a dense forests. These exosystems, not only stabilize soil but also prevent erosion while fostering a self-sustaining environment. Happy world soil day. 🌍🌱🌳 BYD Maroc

Happy #MandelaDay, ethical foodies 👊🇿🇦🌳 This day is a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to take time to reflect on erstwhile South African president and beloved statesman Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's values and principles and to make a positive impact in their own communities. The Nelson Mandela Foundation contributes to a just society by promoting the vision and work of #TataMadiba. This year the theme of the initiative is 'Climate, Food and Solidarity' - calling on us all to address climate change, persisting and rising levels of poverty, and inequality. BLACK MAMBA is heeding this call by rolling out an initiative to offset the CO2 generated by overseas shipments of our products by planting 5 trees for every shipment 🌳🌳🌳 Why trees? Excellent question! Embracing Sustainability: The Environmental Significance of Tulsi Vivah in India In the vibrant tapestry of India's cultural heritage, the Tulsi Vivah tradition stands out not only for its spiritual significance but also for its environmental impact. Let's delve into how this age-old ritual holds relevance in our modern pursuit of sustainability. Oxygen Oasis: Tulsi, or Holy Basil, is known for its remarkable ability to release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. In a world grappling with air pollution, the Tulsi plant becomes a natural ally in purifying the air around us. By celebrating Tulsi Vivah, we not only honor a sacred tradition but contribute to the creation of oxygen oases in our communities. Biodiversity Booster: The Tulsi plant is a biodiversity hotspot, attracting a myriad of insects and birds. By promoting the Tulsi Vivah tradition, we indirectly foster biodiversity, creating a harmonious ecosystem that extends beyond our homes and into the surrounding environment. Water Conservation: The ritualistic care and watering of the Tulsi plant highlight the importance of responsible water usage. In a country where water scarcity is a growing concern, adopting practices that emphasize efficient water use becomes crucial. Tulsi Vivah encourages mindfulness in our water-related activities. Cultural Preservation and Conservation: By partaking in Tulsi Vivah, we actively engage in the conservation of cultural and botanical heritage. As we witness the marriage of Lord Vishnu and Tulsi, we reinforce the importance of protecting our sacred plants and traditions, creating a symbiotic relationship between culture and nature. Sustainable Rituals for Future Generations: In the face of climate change, it becomes imperative to incorporate sustainable practices into our rituals and traditions. Tulsi Vivah sets an example of how cultural celebrations can align with environmental stewardship, leaving a positive impact for generations to come. Let's celebrate Tulsi Vivah not just for its spiritual significance but also for the environmental harmony it brings. Together, let's weave a tapestry where culture and nature coexist, fostering a sustainable and greener future. #TulsiVivah #EnvironmentalSustainability #CulturalHeritage #GreenTraditions

Two-eyed seeing. Heartfelt believing. Today, we are on our way to Pachamama’s heart, leaving on a journey for further reflections on external and internal regenerative sustainability. My first visit to the Achuar people of the Amazon in 2020, changed my perspective on the rainforest, regenerative economy, and indigenous knowledge. Being in heart contact with the trees of the Amazon. Experiencing the vast living network and “nature capital” surrounding the Achuar people – and how road construction and grey growth threatens both Mother Forest and their way of life. Terms such as “regenerative economy”, “bioeconomy” or “indigenous knowledge” are often used in international sustainability contexts, but to practice two-eyed seeing, we need to involve in what they mean in practice; on the ground, in the (rain) forest, and for food production among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon. My first trip – followed by a longer stay with the Achuars and Sappara peoples – inspired me to develop “Jaguar credits”, a regenerative fund where the indigenous people of the Amazon can take care of nature and biodiversity whilst generating income for food and health security. More information to be found here: https://lnkd.in/d7JHju6k This time, our group will be visiting two pioneering communities and a traditional Achuar village in the lower Pastaza region of the Ecuadorian Amazon. This area has some of the highest animal and species diversity in the world, now severely threatened by road construction. We offer ourselves as allies of the indigenous peoples in the area, taking part in their conversations and everyday life. In the front line between the industrial economy and million-year-old ecosystems on the retreating front, we will be exploring how we together can facilitate a regenerative economy and mindset. The journey is organized in collaboration with the Pachamama Alliance (USA) and Fundación Pachamama (Ecuador). #twoeyedseeing #regenerativeeconomy #pachamamaalliance
