Programme Manager at The Women’s Work Lab covering Somerset and NSomerset. Supporting mums to recognise and reach their career aspirations alongside parenting.
Please stop. Firstly I do not believe WFH parenting on a Friday is causing Friday unauthorised absences. Essential FAMILY respite is causing unauthorised absences. Which Covid taught us is desperately important because it reminded us of the finality of it all. WHY DOESN’T THE GOVERNMENT allow for this break once or twice a year? When prices don’t cost the same as a house deposit. Watch unauthorised absences FALL when you just AUTHORISE them.
Say what now? https://lnkd.in/e-YFUXqr

📰 Great read from Michelle Huff in CMSWire about the importance of older adult-friendly technology. As a company dedicated to empowering older adults, this article resonates with us at Smarter. Michelle addresses the challenges faced by older generations with technology and offers insights on bridging the gap for a more accessible and enjoyable tech experience. Undoubtedly, tech companies should step up to make their products senior-friendly. While the eagerness of older adults to embrace technology is evident, barriers to adoption persist. As Michelle aptly points out, many perceive technology as "uncomfortable to use, expensive, and unfamiliar." At Smarter, we believe that personalized support is the key to helping older adults overcome these obstacles. By aligning devices with real needs, we can inspire confidence and empower our users to embrace technology without frustration. With National #seniorcitizensday just around the corner on August 21st, this article reinforces our commitment to making tech a breeze for our loved ones as they navigate the digital age. Today marks this year’s #InternationalDayOfOlderPersons as well as #SilverSunday. We encourage everyone to get involved in the age-friendly movement. There are almost 12 million Brits over the age of 65 and half a million over 90. This is a huge demographic and many people in this group have unique challenges and needs. The market opportunity for assistive technology to help this important cohort is immense. The Centre for Better Ageing has published information on how you can play your part to support the wellbeing of our older generation. We can all help to help create an age-friendly community that drives positive ageing. https://lnkd.in/eePNf_Fd #EmporiaEmpowered #Tech #PositiveAgeing #IDOP23 #IDOP2023

The 2024 Tech Trends and the 50-plus report is out! In the sprit of the new questions about AI (85% awareness, 9% use), I thought it would be fun to use GenAI to create a catchy summary of the findings. What do you think?? #agetech #genAI #digitalliteracy #olderadults *** -In a world where gadgets reign supreme, the tale unfolds of older adults, not just teens, embracing the digital dream. -In the tech forest, they roam; with smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs (oh my!) making the online world their home. -Older adult tech spending didn't hide; in spite of inflation, those 50-plus took it in stride. -In the digital woods, they're not the fastest, but their interest grows, steady and vastest. -Like wise old owls, they wait and see, cautious of each new tech spree. -Some older adults gaze at with hope above, smart homes and AI, the new trees in the grove. -Like a bear with its honey, they're curious, no doubt, about tech to help manage their chronic conditions, but sometimes prefer the old-fashioned route. -Health and wellness tech, like a stream in the woods, offers refreshment for those who could. But here too, they step with care, as not all are ready to fully share. -Streaming and social media have changed the view, especially for Paramount+ and WhatsApp whose audience grew; while cable, like old sunrays, sees less of their days. -So in this digital land of device ownership, where the old and young meet, 50-plus tech strides are impressively neat. -Like lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) in the digital play, they explore and they learn, in their own unique way. https://lnkd.in/eJTqTRG7

The Affordable Connectivity Program is changing the game. In less than two years, over 21 million households have enrolled in the ACP. It's proving to be especially meaningful for households that are on the precipice of disconnection. This is a sign that we MUST keep this program going for years to come. #AffordableConnectivityProgram #DigitalDivide #ACP #InternetAccess

One in two people globally are ageist against older people. Ageism is a serious barrier to digital inclusion. Ageism limits how we think about older people and ICT (e.g., older people are not technically savvy), the way we frame the problems (e.g., older people can’t learn) and the solutions that we find. Older people use technology. But not all older people have equal access to technology or the associated health and social benefits including better mental health, increased physical activity, and more social interactions. Improving the healthcare experience for seniors has been a major focus for innovation over the past decade. But many factors underscore the need for continued progress including the growing 65+ population, increasing life expectancy and the prevalence of high-cost conditions. Technological advances are increasingly becoming entrenched in our lifestyles and are accelerated, thanks to the pandemic, in way. This is especially true for older adults, who use digital technology to connect socially, access information instantly and perform everyday tasks. Yet there may still be a learning curve. The tech landscape has matured significantly over the past decade, especially with its newfound focus on the patient experience. Health and wellness startups have driven advancements in remote monitoring, digital medication management, and smart home and smart apparel applications, as well as enabling services for providers and caregivers. It is essential that governments, schools, and industry offer digital literacy courses specifically for older adults, competitive (affordable!) pricing for internet broadband and wifi, strong consumer protection laws, and privacy and security terms that are conveyed clearly and transparently. Also, universal design is central to capturing the market opportunity of an older digitally savvy population. 2x1.Digital sees an opportunities to further improve the patient experience for seniors. Some of these opportunities include hybrid business models that prioritize patient engagement, particularly in specialty niches such as mental health. #AWorld4AllAges is a world that ensures digital inclusion for older people. 2x1.Digital is committed to further this agenda.
