Yesterday, I commented on South Africa's wheat production dynamics over time, and our growing imports. Still, we have decent wheat production here at home, although we import roughly half of what we need to satisfy our domestic needs. For example, South Africa’s winter wheat harvest is currently in full swing nationwide. Last week, 252 554 tonnes of wheat had already been delivered to commercial silos. This placed the 2023/24 wheat producer deliveries at 1,3 million tonnes out of the expected harvest of 2,2 million tonnes.

For the first time in a decade, the agrochemicals sector will see a drop in revenue in 2024 for three reasons: one, falling prices globally following a supply deluge from China; two, muted demand for exports; and three, the impact of lower reservoir levels on rabi sowing. How will this impact the profitability outlook of the sector? Tune in to the #latest #RatingsPodcast by Poonam Upadhyay to learn more: https://lnkd.in/d4i2Z4F9

Weather-hit wheat production in Western Australia and dwindling stockpiles will limit exports, straining global supplies. Wheat exports are projected to be 20.8 million tons in 2024-25, marginally above the previous season but a third less than the 31.8 million tons in 2022-23, according to ABARES. This comes as production is expected to increase by 12%, highlighting the impact of local challenges on global markets. #WesternAustralia #WeatherHitWheatProduction #LimitExports #GlobalSuppliesStrain #ImpactofLocalChallenges #Globalmarket

A delay in wheat harvest by 10–15 days, remunerative prices in the open market, and poor machinery of state procuring agencies may hit the Centre's wheat procurement in the ongoing rabi season, a top official told LiveMint. This, despite the pace of procurement picking up in recent weeks, with the deficit shrinking to 3% as of 6 May from 25% almost a fortnight ago. As of Monday, the government could procure about 23.8 mt in the 2024-25 rabi season against 24.5 mt during the corresponding period last year. Details in the story: https://lnkd.in/gyqMikxg

✔ During the July period, 110,000 tons of #grain and #oil crops were exported by road transport. Rates for domestic transportation remained unchanged. This is reported by SPIKE BROKERS agency in its Tg-channel. “There is an increase in the number of requests for transportation by dump trucks in the direction of eastern Germany at the beginning of September from various regions of #Ukraine. This allows rates for grain trucks to strengthen in this direction, with a further tendency towards slight growth,” the report says. The start of corn trading in the direction of Italy creates a small demand for delivery by grain trucks, but does not allow rates to be fixed at a level that can be acceptable for carriers. https://lnkd.in/eA8vHgj2
