How did I improve my English after reading this book? Forgetting 3 myths: First myth: Adults cannot acquire a foreign language as easily as children. Second myth: Adults should learn foreign languages the way children learn languages Third myth: When learning a foreign language, try not to use your first language. Roberts and Kreuz report evidence that adults can learn new languages even more easily than children. Children appear to have only two advantages over adults in learning a language: they acquire a native accent more easily, and they do not suffer from self-defeating anxiety about learning a language. #becomingfluent #english

English Second Language Teacher at American International School in Egypt and Physical Education Instructor.
In order to become fluent in American English, you need an American English teacher with an American accent. Another fact is you cant learn the colloquial and informal languages from a teacher who has not lived or was not born and raised in the States. These kind of things are not taught in text books nor schools. Another mistake ESL teacher make is they teach English through their mother language by the use of translations. My question is to you: how did you learn your language? You had learned your language through your language, and that is why you can speak your language fluently. This the same way you should teach English. If you learn through translations, you will think through translations.
