I have learned so much about simultaneous interpreting. It’s a complex task that only trained fluent bilinguals can perform. Remaining calm under pressure is one of the main skills that interpreters have to practice in order to analyze and convey the speech at hand. For this reason, practicing under pressure with focus and with a goal in mind is one of the best practices for any aspiring interpreter.

As an interpreter, I embrace the adrenaline rush that comes with every single assignment. Preparation is key in our field. The more knowledge we have about the topic, the more confident we feel in our interpreting abilities. Will interpreters ever stop feeling this adrenaline or will they ever get used to uncertainty? Well, the truth is, the best interpreters continue to feel that rush each time they start a new assignment. Why? Because every interaction is unique - the pace, humor, and challenges vary depending on the speakers. What captivates me about interpreting is the diversity of assignments. Each one presents fresh challenges, testing my skills and adaptability. Feeling anxious and full of adrenaline isn't a negative; it means there is a strong feeling of dedication to delivering the best interpretation despite the challenges ahead. To my fellow interpreters: Embrace the adrenaline, this means you genuinely care about your craft and strive to excel in every assignment. You're not alone in experiencing these feelings; it's a testament to your commitment to doing your best. 🌟 #Interpreting #LanguageProfessionals

🇵🇱 One Voice Woman of the Year 2024 | Polish Legal Linguist With 11 Years of Experience | Remote FTF | Translation | I make every word you say count | The most pleasant voice in PSI |
It's not always about being wrong or right. It's about establishing an understanding that our viewpoints and experiences may vastly differ. Don't get me wrong, I would love for all the professionals to be on the same page as us, #publicsector #publicservices interpreters. But more often than not, they aren't. In some cases, it may prove impossible. When engaging in an interpreter-mediated exchange, we all come with certain preconceptions and assumptions about: ✨The way a *successful* exchange should look like. ✨Roles and responsibilities of an interpreters. ✨Roles and responsibilities of a service user. ✨The do's and don't's of Public Service Interpreting. As professional, qualified and vetted interpreters, we strive to bring a level playing field and an equitable space where the service user may speak with their own voice and be empowered to make decisions for themselves. But it's important to remember that what we deem to be the industry's standard practices, such as: 🔥an interpreter acting in a completely transparent and neutral manner, 🔥the service user being addressed directly by the professional. 🔥interpreter disclosing familiarity with the service user may not be immediately obvious to the professional. They may have had other experiences and be loathe to change the way they work. They may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable when an interpreter urges them to speak directly to the service user. It's important to remember that and acknowledge our differing and, from the point of view of our individual vantage points, absolutely correct beliefs. We can strive to educate our clients, to change their minds and show them a better and an easier way but this should be done in a respectful and tactful manner. What's even better, we can shine an example of appropriate interpreting practice whenever we encounter a professional who was *never* assisted by a PSI (yes, it actually happens a lot!). We can set a great example from the get go and show how PSI should be done. It's for the benefit of our service users, clients, and most importantly, our own. So tell me, is it a 6 or a 9? #ClientThursday

Contrary to popular belief, it takes more than being bilingual to effectively bridge a language gap between two people. Interpreters must be good listeners, have the ability to code switch effectively, and have a cultural understanding of the languages they work with to be successful. Self-assessments are the key to unlocking effective interpreting sessions. 🔑 To self-assess means to look at oneself and one’s interpreting performance from an outside perspective as one reflects on one’s skills. As interpreters, it’s important to self-assess both during a session and afterward. For more: https://hubs.ly/Q020J8g50 #LanguageServiceProvider #Interpreters #SelfAssessment #BestPractice
