The Health of Nations summarized. As ever - the 50 states in the US - trail behind many developing countries and yet we spend the highest proportion of our GDP on healthcare. How can we support system change and deliver stronger health outcomes? “The poorest men in the U.S. have life expectancies comparable to men in Sudan and Pakistan; the richest men in the U.S. live longer than the average man in any country,” researchers with Harvard concluded. #healthcare #medicine

An interesting #infographic by Eric Topol, MD... I would go a step further and argue that Healthspan is also likely longer in those countries. What can we learn from the people/governments in Japan, Australia, South Korea, Spain, Italy, Canada, and France, in order to do better domestically? #longevity #healthspan #lifespan #wellness

Interesting graph. Life expectancy in Sri Lanka( invested in free education upto Universty level including Medical degrees, plus free health for all) is on par with Algeria with oil wealth. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka may not be able to continue with these investments with borrowed money. Kansas has same life expectancy as Sri Lanka. Saudi Arabia has slightly better life expectancy than Sri Lanka. Clearly money alone is insufficient. Well run and well managed primary healthcare can make a difference along with investment in affordable education for all. #lifeexpectancy #freehealth #healthadvocacy #primaryhealthcare

This graphic does not tell the true story of health inequity in Australia. The overall average life expectancy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men is estimated to be 71.6 years and 75.6 years for females. People living in rural and remote areas are more likely to die at a younger age than their counterparts in Major cities. They have higher mortality rates and higher rates of potentially avoidable deaths than those living in Major cities. In 2020, age-standardised mortality rates increased as remoteness increased for males and females: Males living in Very remote areas had a mortality rate 1.3 times as high as those living in Major cities. Females living in Very remote areas had a mortality rate 1.5 times as high as those living in Major cities. Despite all this Australia seems to have little focus on establishing a health equity index possibly because this one number seems to make Australis health system appear way better than it is. Maybe we focus to much on this final number than the concerning inequities it hides. #healthequity #valuebasedcare #healthreform

Actually, this graph does not tell you much because you cannot determine the cause of such discrepancies. Is it access to good care? Is it lifestyle? Is it genetics? Is it Environment? Is it a high incidence of human trauma? Is it multiple factors that combine? We should be thinking about human health in a more sophisticated way than what this chart may imply.

🌍🏥Despite boasting the most expensive healthcare system in the world, US average life expectancy lags behind many other countries. 🤔💭How did we end up here? 💰💔How can we justify pouring billions into healthcare, yet achieve below-average outcomes? 🤷♀️🏥 Are we focusing too much on high costs and not enough on preventive care? 🤖🧑🏽💻Should we prioritize technology-driven solutions? 🔄🌐Or is it time to reevaluate our entire healthcare system? #digitalhealth #publichealth #healthoutcomes

This is an informative graphics in that it shows both the variation of life expectancy across nations AND states. Looking at the star variations and where those states, I am struck, though not shocked, that there is approximately 6-7 year difference between the longest and shortest American life expectancies. Probably worthy of a deeper dive into what is creating this variation.
