For many parents, the arrival of summer can signify more than sand, surf and scheduled vacations.

My 2023 resolution: Swim in the hygge lane (and fight for the better childcare we deserve here in America). "I thought people exaggerated the Danish concept of "hygge." Boy, was I wrong. Hygge, the Danish concept of taking time to relax and enjoy simple comforts, is everything here. When you go out for a drink with your friends, it's "hyggeligt," which means it's fun and comforting. In the swimming pool, there's a lane for fast swimmers, a lane for medium swimmers, and a lane for hygge swimming. It's a cultural experience; the translation of "cozy" does it justice. It's more about enjoying the moment, taking pleasure in each other's company, and prioritizing the good moments. It may be why there's not really hustle culture here — people don't typically prioritize anything uncomfortable over enjoying a warm and cozy moment."
I moved to Denmark from the UK for better childcare. The lifestyle here means I don't have to choose between a job I love and my kids.

It’s Tuesday, which means it’s Wonderwoods Day at Robin Hill 🎪🍄🌸 …and I’m off taking the kids swimming* When you’re a working parent in an industry where your peak times happen to also be the school holidays, it’s not only the amphitheater you’ll find a juggling act 🤹♀️ The summer holidays is a long time to fill with childcare - 30 days in fact - more than most companies give in annual leave allowances! Let’s not mention the other 35-40 days off the kids have with other holidays 🙃 Whilst it might feel like a clash being in this industry, it’s also a blessing. Operating 7 days a week, with 2 late night openings, I can change up the “standard hours”, work flexibly and have no issues fitting around the kids 👨👩👧👦 And yes, you’ll still find us in the parks on my “days off” because if you’re not slaving your kids out for content, are you even an attraction marketer? 💁♀️ #attractionmarketing #peakseason #workingmum *does anyone actually enjoy taking their kids swimming?! Ridiculously hot, changing room tantrums, and no control over other people’s kids! 🤦♀️

Yesterday, I decided to do something that I rarely do on Sundays since I’m such a creature of habit. Instead of waking up early to head out to the gym, I decided to stay in bed and let my body rest for the upcoming busy week. As I laid in bed, I thought how much of a rarity this simple act of relaxing has been in my life. For years, weekends were spent waking up in the wee hours of the morning for my daughters’ volleyball tournaments and dance competitions or working odd shifts. Now, I find myself trying to get used to having a quiet house since my two eldest are now both in SoCal and my youngest is with me half-time. Like many empty-nesters, I find myself asking “Where did time go?” Well, simply said, life happened and the girls are now living life to the fullest, with one being months away from getting married! No matter what, time does not stand still for anyone So it’s important to make every effort to live an intentional life while raising kids by: ✨Spending quality time and being fully present with them ✨Teaching life skills ✨Setting boundaries ✨Capturing memories 📸 Sometimes, we get too caught up in working long shifts and overtime that it makes it challenging to be present for loved ones. Part of my program is that I help nurses reflect on what their priorities and values are and assist in managing their time so that they can lead a balanced life Message me so we can get you on your way to wellness! #nurses #balanced #mindsetcoach #wellnesscoach #nursecoach #burnoutprevention #wellness #timemanagement #intentional #living

This surely is a better approach instead of shortening summer holidays in the UK. "Perhaps a better alternative would be to keep the summer holidays the length they are...and instead seriously consider how we can better support working parents, single parents, or disadvantaged families. For example, in Sweden, parents can apply for income-linked summer camps, where children can try fishing, drama and sports, as well as helping out with chores including cooking and cleaning..." a good read.
Why shortening the school summer holidays helps no one

Did you know? Research shows families who spend time in nature develop stronger bonds, better communication, and incredible memories compared to those who do not. How are you planning on embracing nature today? A family cookout, a stroll in nature, or a camping adventure? Friday Freedom.... and 🌞🏖️ Summer Holidays are Here! 🏖️🌞... ...at least for children in the UK! Can you imagine the kind of freedom they are feeling? Jumping for joy... running around with lots of smiles...super happy that the school year is over and they have six weeks or so to play and not have to think about school work? For many, summer means embracing a carefree spirit and finding joy in lots of things...little things as well as bigger things. 🍉🍦 It’s a time to explore new places, try exciting activities, and let adventurous natures shine. Some children may be lucky enough to go away on holiday with their family... others will be doing local activities... perhaps summer camps that mum or dad have booked them into or single events, going to the part etc. For students who’ve had a year of hard work – this is a time to unwind, read the books they love, pursue hobbies, and nourish mind and soul. ✨ Sadly... there will be some children and young people whose home environments will be stressful... or who will feel much more challenged and not know how to get through those weeks without seeing their friends on a regular basis. Thankfully, for families facing hardship who don’t have the funds to pay for extra childcare, there are summer camps that many local authorities pay for. 😀 I know this only too well, because I used to manage after-school and holiday camps that included and catered for children of such families. If you are facing financial difficulty and don't know how you're going to manage childcare over the holidays...it’s worth inquiring with your local council what's available to you. Let's also remember that not all activities have to cost in monetary terms. The more activities that can be done without financial expenditure, the more children learn the value of what can be done without having to buy things! 🙏🏻 For children and young people who could do with a creative outlet for dealing with anxiety and low confidence... I will be running a few art and mentoring workshops. Keep a look out for these... details coming up very soon! #summerfun #healthandwellbeing #artandcraft #childrensmentalhealth energizemecoaching.com

30 miles walking - my idea of relaxation. We actually did it! We managed to organise our diaries, childcare, school picks and drop offs, work commitments and take a few days out for what gives us JOY. 🤩 Here I am walking through glorious countryside, with epic views over green Herefordshire. Having never walked 30 miles in 2 days before, (17 miles on day 2!), over the last few months, the thought has been on my mind - can I do it? However after consulting with friends on the use of a walking pole, (which by the way are AMAZING for the knees) as we got closer to the time, the distance was less of a challenge, it was the life admin to make it happen! And if we had not booked the hotels months in advance, and made the commitment, we might have missed those two day of happiness, doing what we love, together. Our time to relax, feel appreciation for life and each other. So if there is something that you know will feed your joy, but that it takes a level of commitment to make it happen, I highly recommend going for it and getting some accountability from a friend who will ensure you follow it through! Feel free to share it in the comments. I'd love to hear all about it... #FindingJoy #Hiking #WorkLifeBalance #Connection
