I do wince at the ‘RFP is dead’ brigade What a crazy statement 😮 So what? • you’re no longer going to request a proposal? • you don’t need a documented process when you’re about to invest millions? • You don’t need a competitive tender to drive the best solution? • You’re going to let Procure tech and Artificial Intelligence do it for you? 😮 ~~~~~ I’ll agree the days of badly run RFPs are over. Suppliers should be choiceful of which they participate in too. Here are 6 ways you can tell if Procurement are delivering a well run process. In short, how to tell if it’s worth your effort. Which is most important 1 to 6? What have I missed?

#DidYouKnow that a buyer can extend a bid on GeM! If number of total participation in the bid is upto 2 Sellers / Service Providers, the Buyer has an option to either extend the Bid or Open Technical Bid on GeM. This flexibility ensures that the procurement process is responsive to the buyer’s needs, allowing for timely adjustments based on the specific dynamics of the bidding scenario.

This is kind of essential on both sides. Even if a company bids if the customer does not follow these simple steps its next to impossible to get alignment and successful outcomes

⏳️ The consultation on our updated pricing guidance closes in two days, on Wednesday 17 April. We’re keen to hear your feedback, so that we can further improve our guidance, which is intended to help contractors apply the new laws on: - Alternative pricing methods for contracts, which will see non-competitive defence contracts able to be priced in new ways. For example, an item could be priced by reference to competitive markets: simplifying and speeding up procurement. - More flexibility and transparency through broadening the ability for a contract to be split into different components or parts, each with its own profit rate and price (known as componentisation). This will allow contract prices to better reflect risk-sharing between the MOD and defence contractors. - Rationalisation of how the contract profit rate is to be calculated, removing two steps from the existing six step process and simplifying the agreement of contract profit rates. 👉 Please let us know what you think at: https://lnkd.in/eXvcaQFf #defenceindustry #defenceprocurement #ukdefence #procurement #consultation

“An absolute debacle.” “Beyond damning.” “Broken.” 👀 Not exactly the things you want to hear about your procurement process. But that’s what a recent review concluded about the MOD’s Ajax fighting vehicle programme. In the words of a member of the Commons defence committee, it’s a “case study of how not to do procurement.” So, what are the lessons here? → Requirements will change on big, multi-year projects, whether they come from politics, tech developments, or elsewhere. But suppliers and buyers must be honest and upfront about how they will manage that - not simply fumble through it later. → Ensure the project scope is clear with the contractor before starting the contract. Of course, this requires clear specifications (which is its own issue - see above.) → Just getting something out to tender isn’t enough – the final product has to be value for money. A report into the MOD’s procurement process found that the contract “favoured manufacture over verification and validation of design,” an obvious error when we’re talking about such a vital piece of machinery. → Be realistic with your schedule of delivery. Ajax is already six years late – but if the MOD had stuck to realistic scheduling from the beginning, they might have factored this in. We never want to hear about procurement failures – but worse is if the government doesn’t learn from them. Now, change is on the horizon. Defence Digital’s Commercial X are looking at ways to improve the procurement process for MOD - and I for one am really hoping they succeed. Any other lessons you can pinpoint from the Ajax nightmare? #tenders #procurement #GovernmentContracting
