Nearly all AI coverage is dedicated to either new LLM releases or chips. Not enough attention is devoted to the physical complexity of operationalizing these assets. #DataCenters The link below captures a fascinating discussion with Brian V. (CoreWeave Chief Strategy Officer) that highlights the intricate logistics of data center operations, financing, and planning. This is often difficult in established data center regions (i.e. Northern Virginia) whose saturation and readily available infrastructure offerings creates load and capacity concerns. CoreWeave, and others in the AI data center category, avoid these saturated markets and focus on regions with stable grid infrastructure, capacity to expand and excess renewable energy. Think about the economic boon this pattern could be to local economies (*if responsibly managed). As one can imagine, financing data centers is incredibly capital-intensive. Alternate standards, namely liquid cooling, that better address excessive heat - which can lead to hardware failure, reduced performance, and increased energy consumption - are quickly developing. The initial investment for a liquid cooling system (which can include immersion, direct-to-chip cooling, two-phase immersion cooling, evaporative cooling, and closed-loop cooling methods ... you can go down a rabbit hole!) can be higher than traditional air cooling; however, the ROI is realized through improved energy efficiency, higher-density computing, and potential infrastructure simplification. These aspects of data center logistics are not only complex but also crucial for the successful operationalization of AI technologies. This article by Sequoia Capital on AI summarizes what I have been saying behind the closed doors for a long time- "the time to make your own food in your own kitchen is over, collaboration is the only way forward". For every $1 spent on a GPU, roughly $1 needs to be spent on energy costs to run the GPU in a data center. This is excluding any margins by the cloud vendor and not to mention the impact on carbon footprint / ESG commitments. #artificialintelligencestrategy #carbonfootprint #esg #gpu

AI has the potential to exceed all the transformative innovations of the past. To take full advantage, the compute required in the world's data centers must scale exponentially, but this exposes a critical challenge. How do we provide the immense power data centers need to fuel AI? ๐ In the search for a solution, the largest AI hyperscalers like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Oracle turn to Arm Neoverse to reduce power without compromising performance. With general purpose compute and CPU-based AI inference capabilities, Neoverse is on the path to being the de-facto standard across cloud data centers, saving upwards of 15% of total data center power as Arm deployments broaden. This is how we make the future of AI possible. A future built #onArm.

Connect users to a decentralized network of high-end GPU chips. Check out my LinkedIn article (https://lnkd.in/ghwdvr6p )I wrote in 2/2019. โ In this era of CAPEX and OPEX savings, you must double down on hybrid cloud to scale AI. โ Cut AI Application development times. โ Boards must seek metrics on AI/ML Model lifecycle and associated AI productization and scaling. โ If you don't ensure data availability, quality, and control, you will be prone to regulatory fines that will cost reputational damage, among others. โ Yet another reason I recommend Boards to have innovation and technology committee to oversee tech strategy, business resilience, "and" profitable growth. #CEO #KSgems #CIO #CTO #CISO #boardofdirectors #boardofdirectors #boardgovernance https://lnkd.in/g9ig8kvG

Great article by Stรฉphane Fisch on the intersection of AI, Cloud, and strategic innovations. "The demand for AI compute is so tremendous that even electricity supply struggles to keep up with the power-hungry data centres. The financial investment in this sector is also staggering, with an estimated $1 trillion worth of installed compute requiring upgrades for AI, and likely another $1 trillion needed for new infrastructure. This unprecedented capital expenditure is fuelling a colossal market opportunity."
