May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. AAPI culture has enriched the fabric of American society and continues to shape our nation's identity. Did you know? According to Nielson, the collective purchasing power of Asian Americans is over $1 trillion, far exceeding the increase in purchasing power of all other racial and ethnic groups over the same period. For comparison, the total U.S. buying power grew 119% during the same period. Additionally, there are 3 million AAPI-owned businesses and 643,000 Asian employer firms in the United States. AAPI employer-owned businesses represent nearly 13 percent of all employer businesses, contribute more $1 trillion in receipts and more than 5.2 million jobs to the U.S. economy. During this month and beyond, let's take time to appreciate the achievements of AAPI individuals and communities, continue to educate ourselves about the culture, and seek out opportunities to support organizations that empower and educate the AAPI communities. Happy AAPI Month!

In May, we celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month, a time to honor and recognize the rich cultural heritage and significant contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander communities worldwide. At Bridging Legacies Across Campuses (BLAC), we understand the importance of highlighting these beacons of success and pride from diverse backgrounds, ranging from renowned musicians like Yo-Yo Ma to pioneering scientists like Marie Curie. Each story represents a triumph over adversity and a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of BIPOC individuals. As we amplify #ourfacesourvoices, we not only celebrate the achievements of the past but also uplift the voices of today's leaders, ensuring that their legacies inspire generations to come. Throughout history, Asian and Pacific Islander communities have faced challenges and discrimination, yet their resilience and perseverance have led to remarkable achievements in various fields. By shining a spotlight on their accomplishments, we not only honor their contributions but also pave the way for greater representation and inclusion. This month, let us come together to celebrate diversity, embrace cultural heritage, and recognize the invaluable impact of BIPOC success on our society. #asianpacificheritagemonth #ourfacesourvoices

Did you know that every May, we celebrate #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth to honor the rich history and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans? Like most commemorative months, it all started with a congressional resolution. 🇺🇸 This recognition was first proposed as a week-long celebration by a dedicated California State employee, Jeanie Fung-Rees, in 1977. It then officially became a month-long celebration in 1992 through Public Law 102-450.📅 I recently read a fascinating article on Google Arts & Culture that traced the genesis of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. It revealed that the idea for this commemorative week was sparked by the U.S. bicentennial in 1976, inspiring many communities to celebrate their own cultural identities.🎉 What struck me was the tireless effort of advocates like Jeanie Fung-Rees, Frank H. H. Fujii, and countless others who worked diligently to establish and celebrate this month. It's a testament to the power of determination and the importance of acknowledging the diversity that makes us stronger.💪 As we continue to celebrate this month, let's reflect on the significant contributions of Asian Pacific Americans to our society. How have these communities influenced your life or work? And remember, acknowledging and celebrating a diverse range of heritages contributes to the cultural richness and forward progression of our societies. 🌏 #CelebrateDiversity #AsianPacificAmericanHeritage #CulturalHeritage #Inclusion
