This June, we join fellow organizations in celebrating #ImmigrantHeritageMonth and the significance of diverse im/migrant communities in our nation. Im/migrants have been the foundation of American economy and culture since the beginning of the country; we are and will continue to be a nation of im/migrants. Join the fight for the expanded protection and continued liberation of im/migrant communities. In the words of May Chen, “make a better world for family, friends, immigrants, and workers.”

Thank you for sharing, Amanda Martinez, MSW. It was great collaborating with you on this piece, especially during the introduction of the latest DACA bills in the state of Wisconsin. If there is anything I want the audience to take away from our brochure is that: The DACA policy doesn't make a group superior because they qualify for temporary protection, this policy is rather a settlement to the displacement of children growing up in the US borders-- which is not exclusive to the children in the Northern and Southern borders (formerly known as Mexican territory). This includes children all around the world living in borders created by the US military/CIA/bank/tech/corporations, which force families to flee their homelands due to inhabitable conditions like starvation, mining, hazardous environments, war/conflict, violence, and/or genocide. This is a settlement because there will never be a program or price that can compensate for the suffering of a child who is displacement from their home, let alone their home country. The physical and mental trauma that children and families endure is the biggest price of all. Therefore, at the bare minimum, the DACA policy must act as a pathway to US citizenship. Any chance I get, I will say just that. Now, as an activist wearing my policy advocate coat, I ask El Pueblo (The People) to support the latest DACA bills and collaborate with any efforts to further opportunities for our resilient immigrant families (living in Wisconsin and all across the country). 📌📌📌NEW RESOURCE: DACA Recipients in Wisconsin People have been traveling across continents for over 20,000 years. In most instances, people leave their home countries for reasons beyond their control, including violence, war, displacement, and lack of access to food and jobs. One of the most impactful federal policies we have to support immigrants is the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. In Wisconsin, we have a growing population of DACA recipients. Yet, some state legislators are making life harder for our immigrant neighbors. Fueled by fear, these decision makers uphold damaging narratives that are rooted in racism and xenophobia. Our latest work breaks down who DACA recipients are and why it's so critical for state lawmakers to support our immigrant communities. For Americans, Thanksgiving is a non-religious public holiday where families come "home" to celebrate. Similar to Chinese New Years for Asians. Many of my clients have already earmarked this Thanksgiving holiday as a time to talk with children and grandchildren about the present...and the future. There is little doubt that we live in "interesting times" with unsettling events occurring on a local and international level. The goal of this blog is to provide a roadmap to move from despair to action. #wildfire #fireinsurance #fireprevention #fireescapeplan #antisemitism #racism #gunviolence #massshooting #2024election #uselection #trump #biden #backupplan #elizabethwarren #berniesanders #ronwyden #expatriation #renunciation #ustax #exitplanning #taxplanning #uscitizenship #citizenshipbasedtaxation #greencard #taxtherich #alternativecitizenship #alternativeresidence #capitalgainstax #travelrestrictions #secondcitizenship #secondpassport #secondresidence #citizenshipbyinvestment #residencebyinvestment #lineagecitizenship #lawofreturn #Aliyah #wealthtax #goldenvisa #renunication #exitstrategy #billionairetax #gunviolence #antisemitism #politicalunrest #grat #grantorretainedannunitytrust https://lnkd.in/dkAvDX5x

Every child, a beacon of untapped potential, deserves the embrace of universal rights, transcending borders and affiliations. Safeguarding their fundamental rights is a sacred obligation woven into our shared humanity. In the symphony of human rights, ensuring the well-being of every child, as outlined by the UNCRC, is not just a choice—it's a moral imperative uniting us beyond the divisions of land or language. #childrights #socialimpact #developmentprofessional https://lnkd.in/dcy54eVD

Italy, a global migration hub, faces the complex challenges of integrating new arrivals. Understanding the neuroscience of stress and trauma is crucial for policymakers, researchers, and civil society to develop trauma-informed approaches to fostering inclusive societies. #migrants #migranti A Brief by Annika Barron : 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬: 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐦𝐚-𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 https://lnkd.in/d7BdT8EG

Today marks a significant anniversary for me. On this day in 1980, at just 2 years old, I arrived in the United States with my young, traumatized, and scared mother, fleeing the brutal Civil War in El Salvador. As I reflect on this milestone, I can't help but acknowledge the role that political asylum played in changing the course of our lives. Without it, our story might have taken a drastically different turn. It's a stark reminder that the policies and actions of nations can have profound impacts on the lives of individuals and families across the globe. The United States, a beacon of hope for many, provided sanctuary for us during our darkest hour. Yet, it's crucial to recognize that the need for asylum stemmed, in part, from the destabilization of our homeland in Central America. We cannot ignore the role that external forces, including those of the U.S., played in shaping the circumstances that led us to seek refuge. My story is just one among millions of immigrants who have made and continue to make invaluable contributions to this country. Immigrants enrich the fabric of American society with their diverse cultures, talents, and perspectives. Asylum seekers, like my family, are not seeking handouts or special treatment; they are escaping unfathomable horrors and seeking safety and dignity. On this anniversary, and as we go into this year's election cycle, I urge us all to remember the importance of humane treatment and straightforward processes for all human beings, including those seeking refuge. We must strive for policies and practices that support, rather than deter, individuals and families in their pursuit of a better life. It's not only the moral thing to do; it's also in the best interest of our nation's values and future. #ImmigrantsMakeAmericaGreat #AsylumSeekers #RefugeesWelcome #HumanRights #Inclusion #Solidarity

Celebrating the ‘melting pot’ that is the United States, October 28th, National Immigrants Day, brings to light the uniqueness of the background of the various cultures of people who now make up the American people. With more immigrants than any other single nation, the United States is a place that has traditionally held open arms to those interested in starting a new life. With more than 45 million immigrants, or 14 percent of the population, most people don’t have to look very far back in their line of parents or grandparents to find someone who started their lives afresh in the USA. After the US became its own independent nation in 1776, the 19th century brought with it a host of immigrants including many Irish who were driven from their homeland by famine, as well as Asians who were lured to the west coast by discoveries of gold. And, of course, the oppression of Jews in Eastern Europe was another motivator for immigration. National Immigrants Day is meant to give a salute to those whose roots may come from somewhere else but are now planted firming in the United States of America. So raise a glass, have a toast, or say congratulations to those immigrants who make up the landscape of the American population today. #NationalImmigrantsDay2023 #NationalImmigrantsDay #ImmigrantsDay #ImmigrantsAreEssential #ImmigrantsMakeAmericaGreat #ImmigrantsStories #Immigrants
