My friend and colleague Dr. Siba Ray began the successful work in the Physical Chemistry department of Alcoa Technical Center in the 1970’s under the management of Norm Cochran and directed by Noel Jarrett, both of whom encouraged risk taking and creativity.
Good job. I would like to see ALCOA patents for new anodes and cathodes. I hope the technology does not infringe on the patent rights of our technology - https://patents.google.com/patent/RU2763059C1/en I hope we will be useful in cooperation in order to increase profits and clean future aluminum production.
Great to see the launch of the industrial-scale demonstration of this breakthrough technology! I hope we can use the aluminium melted with no direct carbon emissions in our high voltage grids soon! ⚡️ Tutku Büyük Johanna Boyce Max Böhm interesting read!
Best of luck!
Why, I remember when this project was wee…All grown up, eh?
Happy to have been a part of such an inovative process.
Congratulations to all who have made this happen.
Exciting progress -- love to see it!

2wFor those unaware of this, ELYSIS was established in 2018, and it is a technology partnership between Alcoa and Rio Tinto to advance technology first developed at the Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) outside of Pittsburgh. Rio Tinto’s demonstration project will occur at Arvida in Quebec, Canada Alcoa Corporation (NYSE: AA) has just announced further progress on ELYSIS technology with Rio Tinto’s plans to launch the first industrial-scale demonstration of the breakthrough technology, which eliminates all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the traditional smelting process and produces oxygen as a byproduct. Congrats for both Alcoa and Rio Tinto Really good job !
