Yaaay, Minecraft turned 15 🥳 Yes, 15 years;  (I did not believe it either first). Frankly speaking, I'm not really a Minecraft player myself; I don't even know what to do, or how to play it 😂 But some of you are; That's why I'm sharing some interesting facts you might like about Minecraft 😋 The game is created by Markus "Notch" Persson in Java programming language. Java ☕♨ (really? 😶) Believe it or not, Minecraft wasn't always destined for greatness. The game's original name was "Cave Game." Not quite catchy, right? A school in Stockholm, Sweden, actually incorporated Minecraft lessons into their curriculum for 13-year-old students. Woowoowoow, wait a min, what? The largest playable Minecraft structure ever built is a replica of our own planet Earth. It's a 1:1 scale model built by a team called "Build The Earth" and requires a supercomputer to run. And uses over 6 trillion blocks. 6 trillion. Are you kidding me? OMG. I had the pleasure and honor of reviewing the recent Minecraft Education Edition world, 'The Good Game', alongside other Minecraft Ambassadors. This game, which has just been released, presents a world that is simple in terms of mechanics but rich in valuable messages. It emphasizes empathy, acceptance of diversity and weaknesses, inclusivity to ensure the team embodies all characters, honesty in game play, selflessness, and sacrifice for the common good. The game also highlights courage in decision-making when it comes to protecting values and principles. In an era deeply scarred by corruption in sports, this game brings back old, good values like family relationships, friendship, and camaraderie, blending them with new ideas and technologies which, without moral integrity and ethics, are inhumane and scary. And, of course, it touches upon the fact that parents spend minimal quality time with their children due to work commitments, often engrossed in using their computers. What I appreciated most, however, is that this game focuses on messages rather than on complex codes and mechanics requiring expertise and can be daunting for inexperienced players. Its goal is not skill mastery but the messages it conveys to young people. As a foreign language teacher, I could easily design a month's worth of lessons covering everything from grammar and vocabulary to preparing for oral exams, even for Proficiency or IELTS, by playing this game.
