Quite a bit of information to digest in this proposed rule on heat-related illness prevention. It will be interesting to see how this evolves over the coming months and whether it survives the November elections. Many of the elements in this proposed rule are already standard practices, but formalizing requirements such as mandatory breaks and air-conditioned break rooms could be a struggle for some sites.

The staggering toll of nearly 3 million work-related fatalities annually emphasizes the immediate need to prioritize occupational health and safety worldwide. Governments, employers and workers must unite to implement effective measures safeguarding lives and livelihoods. Governments should establish and enforce comprehensive occupational safety and health (OSH) regulations, conduct regular safety audits, and hold negligent employers accountable. Employers must embed OSH principles in their operations by identifying hazards, implementing risk mitigation and promoting safety through training.
