It’s an ability to create context, alignment and meaningful dialogue for stakeholders. It’s the the ability to draw on a multitude of experience and tools to create the right change environment. It’s the ability to coach and support the change sponsors and agents who have a really tough job. This is what makes you an expert. It’s not an afterthought; bolt on to a CV; or something you can claim to be an expert in when you’re not. Give Change Management the respect it deserves. Happy Wednesday!

ALIGNMENT OF QMS PRINCIPLES WITH CHANGE & PROJECT MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES There is a theme to many of my posts where a Quality Management System (QMS) is at the heart of the message, acknowledging the operational benefits of the key principles & where there may be a natural alignment to achieve specific goals. Topics that commonly feature in business, also leadership & people development books / courses. I mention how this approach can support a business life cycle, also the development of high-performing teams. Adding to the benefits is the facilitation of effective Change & Project Management programmes, as there is a clear alignment in principles & objectives. Change & Project Management was a fundamental aspect of my corporate career, along with leading high-performing teams. It is this extensive experience that has made me a QMS advocate. The QMS framework supports effective Change Management & Project Implementation, with complementary strategies. It captures the core foundations for success, leading to improved performance & satisfaction. LEADERSHIP COMMITMENT It is essential to have top-down leadership team buy-in. Leaders play a key role in influencing others & overcoming natural resistance to change. PEOPLE ENGAGEMENT This includes Stakeholder Management, critical for achieving objectives. Individuals need to be motivated & empowered to embrace change & to succeed. CUSTOMER FOCUS Ensuring a clear understanding of requirements, to successfully meet expectations. Assessing satisfaction & gaining insight into improvements that may enhance the customer experience, driving engagement & loyalty. PROCESS APPROACH The understanding & management of processes. Clarifying ways of working (e.g. training & documentation), managing risks & identifying areas for improvement. EVIDENCE BASED DECISION MAKING Using facts & evidence to make informed decisions, based on reliable data & information. RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Building & managing relationships with interested parties. Ensuring effective communication & collaboration. When personally involved in System & Process developments, the QMS principles become a fundamental backdrop, a valuable checklist for reference. Despite best intentions of many organisations to fully apply change & project management best practice, there may be practical, operational oversights, that can fuel resistance to change. Compromises may arise as department pressures increase. Embracing a QMS isn't just a strategic choice; it is a holistic approach that permeates leadership, people engagement, change management & project implementation. What makes a project management firm successful? here are a few things that I think are the most important: • Leadership: Successful organisations regardless of size are only as good as the talent they have and can retain, and being able to lead and motivate their teams to achieve their goals. • Organisation: the ability to organise and manage complex projects effectively. •Communication: communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels is key here this is especially challenging because of the technical nature of such projects. • Problem-solving: ensuring the team and firm culture is rooted in being solution providers for clients, focusing on being able to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently. • Adaptability: proactively training, supporting and developing the team so that they are able to adapt to change and manage unexpected challenges. Change management isn't an option. It's a project delivery imperative. It's about creating long-standing results, safeguarding project benefits and ensuring the change lands as safely and smoothly as possible for your people - who are your greatest asset (in my opinion). It feels great to land a project safely and smoothly. To meet your people where they are, understand your stakeholder's needs and build fit-for-purpose solutions to support them. But by far one of the best feelings is building long-standing stakeholder relationships. This doesn't happen overnight, and it takes effort and time. But the time you spend on this now will reap rewards 10-fold. Ensure that you: ✅ Spend the time and ask good questions to understand their needs and what's going on in their world (do this off the back of or during your stakeholder analysis or stakeholder interviews - and also regularly check in with them) ✅ Remove any ego you are holding (whether intentional or not) and remember that people generally have the best intentions (particularly important when you are managing any non-participation or active or passive resistance) ✅ Meet them where they are and check and monitor exactly where this is - have they come with the change or are they lagging? What can we do to help them move forward?
