I have been in change management for 20 years, which never ceases to amaze me, particularly as the journey started by accident! Prior to getting into change management, I was employed as a workplace trainer working with the long-term unemployed. I enjoyed the work but with a young son, I was looking to getting into the public service as it resembled job security (back then it was a thing 😊). I was fortunate to secure a permanent position as a trainer on a new online system. However, within a brief time, a well-known consultancy firm evaluated the project and determined there were too many trainers. And just like that, I experienced a change I had no control over and overnight I was thrust into the role of a change analyst. 20 years later, I’m still in this field – and loving it! Sometimes the best career paths are the ones you don’t plan! How did you get started in your area of work? I’d love for you to share with me in the comments.

Exactly how mine started. I was a trainer but there were no additional pieces outside the training. What it meant for people. What was different. What the new process was etc. so I started pulling those together to support the training material

Love this, Alicia! And the accidental part certainly applies to how I got into LinkedIn Visibility coaching! Social media wasn’t even around when I was choosing career options at uni 😱 #datingmyself It’s good to plan your career, but even better - I believe - to go with the flow on what lights you up.
