The last time the Iowa-Grant high school band got new uniforms was 1986, the year the first flip cell phones went on sale, the original Top Gun was on top of the box office, and Golden Girls took home the Emmy.
Now ALLETE Clean Energy, which developed the Whitetail and Red Barn wind farms nearby, is helping these band students get much-needed new uniforms through a $10,000 donation.
“Our old marching uniforms served us well, but after 38 years, we were due for an update,” says Heather Gile, Iowa-Grant band director. “Although the task of raising such a large sum of money seemed daunting just a few months ago, we have been extremely lucky to have generous donors like ALLETE Clean Energy. Soon our days of sweat-stained jackets and pinning and taping students into their broken marching pants will be over. We can't thank you enough!"
