How can you motivate employees to participate in your volunteering programs?
Last week, we hosted a webinar discussing how you can enable the success of your employee engagement programs through this all-important factor.
Chris Jarvis from the RWInstitute, Alexandra Gimbel from BNP Paribas Germany, and Marielle Versluis from ABN AMRO Bank N.V. had an illuminating discussion on how to overcome the top 4 challenges to employee engagement programs.

This makes me think about companies who are always saying the customer comes first. There are intricacies of truths woven with authenticity and other “yarns”that make this statement mean something real to us.
But what if your company always said that employees come first, always. No matter what. Our company is employee-first. We focus on innovative technology for them first so they can excel in their positions. Improve your employee experience fist. Fix that first. Focus on better processes and tech for pricing and sales teams …
Say what? Well, customers are a natural extension of us. They’re a reflection of who employees are.
I dunno.
But I love #patagonia for doing this! Baby steps.
"At Patagonia, we do our best to not be bound by convention and to look out for people and the planet," the company shared in a statement. "For the last week of this year, we are shutting down our stores, warehouse and offices in the United States and Canada because our people need a break." #realdeal
Every year companies analyze the results of their annual engagement surveys. More often than not, these annual results leave senior management wringing their hands looking for ways to improve employee engagement. Patagonia has it right. They understand their employees so well and recognize their employees all need a break after a hectic holiday season, so they get the week after Xmas off…paid. Unheard of in retail.
Is your organization close enough to your employees to read their needs? Don’t get me wrong, we all love the pizza and taco lunches 2 days a week. But if you understand and meet your employees’ needs, the engagement scores will take care of themselves.

Patagonia gave a masterclass in employee engagement, internal communications, and PR with only one sentence.
What was it?
"We'll be taking some time off." Their stores make a commitment to stay closed from December 25 through the new year.
Any company that invests in its employees makes back that investment in multiples. A great point from the article: "When you stick to your values, it might cost you in the short term, but you come out ahead every time."
Have you seen other brands in retail follow suit? The tides may be shifting to put more of a focus on employee engagement.
