Here's a blog post I wrote about career development in the music industry – including creating a body of work; developing a long-term career plan; assembling a network of peers, industry professionals, customers, and press & media contacts; identifying potential performance venues and promotional resources; and planning & managing live events – and about how learning and working within that process eventually led me to build the Gigpromoter app https://lnkd.in/eZ2yfGB5

In this economy (and life), I am learning to be more resourceful and innovative… I independently and collaboratively produced this 3D-animated short film and music video. Lately, I’ve been combining my project management and artistic skills to create timeless and scalable content. My mission involves building a brand “e10good” and community around supporting independent artists by leveraging technology and relationships. I am doing this by creating events and spaces that bridge the perceived gaps between independent creatives and aligned businesses. Why? The best way to inspire is to lead by example, stay consistent, and keep improving. I’m redefining what independent artistry means. It involves: treating your art as a business, only collaborating with those who clearly align with your vision, learning to outsource wisely, and being in control of your work. Enjoy the video! Crafting the perfect soundtrack for seven Super Bowl ads in a single year is no easy feat. 🎵🏈 For Kelly Bayett and her team at Barking Owl Sound, such a monumental achievement is more than just a showcase of their talent. It's a testament to forging strong relationships and always keeping things interesting. In her conversation with Billboard, Kelly shared some of the keys to their success. Here are 4 lessons from their journey: 1️⃣ Never take your eyes off the big picture. Achieving lasting success means planning for the long term rather than taking the fast and easy route. 2️⃣ Cultivate deep relationships. Strong, trust-based relationships are key to getting your foot in the door. 3️⃣ Innovate relentlessly. Keeping your work fresh isn't just about staying relevant; it's about continually challenging yourself. 4️⃣ Empower through support. When a team feels genuinely supported, their creative potential knows no bounds. Barking Owl Sound's journey from a home-based startup to a powerhouse in music and sound design is a powerful reminder that the roots of success are often found in the values we uphold and the relationships we cherish. 🌟 👇 You can find the full interview here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/g6uFyxST #MusicIndustry #CreativeLeadership #SuperBowlAds #LongTermSuccess

"If you’re going to reach your audience, putting out songs and not having a video presence where you’re connecting with your fans is almost unthinkable. The medium through which fans connect with the individual behind the music—the soundtrack of their lives—those things have expanded, and artists will have to evolve as creators to meet those needs. They also need to evolve as entrepreneurs and businesspeople, because they have the responsibility to manage that brand—in part because of the way that the industry has evolved. The change in the economic structure at record labels means nobody else is picking up that ball. Now there are plenty of artists who have an entrepreneurial bent, but they don’t want to wake up every day and go sit in an office chair and spend a huge portion of their time on this. So that’s why the function of artist management is becoming more important than ever and expanding in terms of the requirements for what it takes to help service an artist." Some great tidbits in the article with Firebird Co-Founder and CEO, Nathan Hubbard. I highly encourage any artists pursuing a career, to read the full writeup. https://lnkd.in/gYA2xT6f

Another portfolio pick this afternoon: our ongoing work with Bang & Olufsen. This is one of those lovely partnerships where you get to radically refresh the voice of a much-loved brand, and then apply it in various manifestations – not unlike our work on the rebrand of Formula 1. Indeed, like F1, B&O had found themselves stuck with a voice that focused on features, facts, and figures, while missing out almost entirely on the emotional heart of their world. In B&O’s case, that heart was the music. Which might seem obvious, but when your product is as technically advanced as theirs, it's remarkably easy to slip into a celebration of megahertz over magic. (Just as F1 had become obsessed with stats over storytelling.) Working alongside our friends at SNASK 🧠, we developed new voice guidelines that turned up the volume on emotion, and celebrated the experience of listening to music with B&O. Of course, the technical details are there too – but in their place as enablers of experience, not as the experience itself. We’re now applying B&O's new voice to a range of comms – recently around their partnership with Ferrari. It seems the worlds of soul-stirring music and heart-thumping driving are never that far apart... Very insightful read. Afrobeats/Afropop could use some insights here for sure even though it's majorly a solo artist industry unlike K-pop. Particularly, I agree when it comes to bringing the fans in-house. The popularity of Kpop and Hallyu as a whole is driven by the demands of dedicated fans worldwide. The fan culture is intriguing not to mention the entrepreneurial exploration that Korean entertainment companies do with the fandom. I believe that fan culture is something that hasn't been explored in Afrobeats/Afropop. Hopefully, we can learn the ropes from Kpop and fill the gap. Investing in choreography is so on point. Again for Afrobeats/Afropop, it's not quite popular because most of the A-list artists are solo artists. However, in the past from what I remember as I do not have all the facts, we had popular teams like Psquare - Peter and Paul (Nigerian twin brothers), who made Choreography a thing here in Nigeria with songs like "Do me", "Personally" etc before they split up and got back together recently. These days, thanks to tiktok etc, most Afrobeats solo artist use choreography to promote their new songs. It can be done better nonetheless. Overall, these are excellent points.
