The North is primed to make the UK a global leader on climate change. Our region generates half of England's renewable energy, decarbonising faster than the rest of the country. 📖 Clare Hayward's op-ed for The Northern Agenda on our ready-made solution: https://shorturl.at/aeoX9 🔎 You can learn more about our ready-made solution in our report, 'Net Zero North: Collaboration Powering Global Britain': https://lnkd.in/eU4kTz7s

Congratulations and huge thanks to Taylor Chapman, Gabriel Malek and Deanna Zhang for their development and delivery of an incredible report on the state of Houston's Climate Tech Ecosystem. This report highlights the incredible growth our Houston ecosystem has seen in the last few years as well as its potential to really accelerate the energy transition. It also shines the light on some of our biggest challenges and offers very tangible actions to help Houston continue to grow as a hub of energy & climate tech innovation. Also, a big shoutout to HETI supporter and partner - Vinson & Elkins for helping produce and deliver this fantastic report. What excites me most about Houston's potential to lead the global transition to a low-carbon, energy abundant future is the passion of our people to show the world that Houston can and will remain the energy capital of the world - by working collaboratively across all sectors, segments, industries, and communities. #climatetech #energytransition #lowcarbonenergyabundantfuture https://lnkd.in/gqzhtWK4

📢In case you missed it! Check out our contribution to a recent report exploring how to better engage residents of the North West of England with #NetZero - so the transition happens with them, not too them. 👀Find out more and read the report below 👇
How can we better engage residents of the North West of England with the #NetZero energy transition? This was the question posed to us by Mayors Andy Burnham (Greater Manchester) and Steve Rotheram (Liverpool City Region). As part of the Green Energy Task Force, which the mayors set up last year, we have produced evidence-based recommendations on how to engage residents so that the transition is done with them, not to them. 👀 Read our contribution to the report here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eunJb4NA Public engagement is particularly important for places like the North West, with a legacy of regional inequalities but also lots of potential to be a green energy superpower. As our work highlights, involving local communities is the best way to mitigate fears and bring people into the transition story and process. Local leaders must also build narratives that resonate with a diverse range of values and everyday concerns. The Green Energy Task Force is composed of The Green Britain Foundation, Climate Outreach and Co-operatives UK. Our contribution is part of a larger report (found here: https://lnkd.in/ePWbQzcN), which tells a clear story about the potential for and benefits of investing in a just transition in the North West, with lessons that will likely be of interest to other parts of the UK.

Thank you, Climate Tracker Asia, for featuring our recent visit to Baku, Azerbaijan. In my column, All About Choices, in The Manila Times tomorrow (29 June 2024), I write: "While in Baku, Azerbaijan, we witnessed the launch of three RE [renewable energy] projects that will provide one gigawatt supply. These initiatives highlight the country's commitment to fostering a more sustainable and resilient energy system while navigating the complexities of global energy markets and climate policy."

As world leaders gather in New York this week for Climate Week and the UN’s High Level Week, climate concerns have never been more important or urgent. The extreme weather events this year have rocked us all. The UK is committed to sustainable economic growth, investing billions into renewable energy, including with our most recent announcement to provide $2bn to help replenish the Green Climate Fund. The UK is home to the world’s four largest operational offshore wind farms. And in the first quarter of this year, nearly 48% of our electricity came from renewable sources – a new record for us. The UK will be very much a part of #ClimateWeekNYC, with leaders from government, business and civil society participating in the discussions on the climate action. During last night’s state of the union address President Biden touted his administration’s investments in renewable energy as part of his goal to reduce emissions and fight climate change. Natural gas must be part of any serious plan to address climate change, and as the U.S. continues to move towards greater adoption of renewable forms of energy, there is an increased need for natural gas and its infrastructure to deliver reliable, secure and affordable clean energy.
