Former federal prosecutor focusing on health care fraud, data analytics, and white-collar criminal defense, based on 20+ years experience in law and journalism
In case it's helpful, here is some of the advice I offered yesterday or typically tell law students or new lawyers: Find a lawyer who does what you'd like to do and try asking for a coffee or a Zoom. Most people won't respond, and that's fine. But some will respond, and you'll learn some things and you'll make a contact who might be able to help later on. Go to court. Many law students who want to become litigators have never been to court. Check the online dockets, find something interesting, observe, and introduce yourself afterwards to a lawyer who you thought did a good job. Try developing a niche. Everyone looks like a good lawyer on their law-firm bio pages, and it's hard to distinguish yourself that way. But if you have a niche, it's easier to stand out. Learn how to use a spreadsheet. Most lawyers are not good with this, but this is where a lot of evidence now is. Knowing how to use and analyze data will give you a competitive advantage down the road. Pitch a webinar. Think of something that you really know, or think of a way to draw lessons from your experience. Many bar associations would like to do more content, and it's a way to build your network and stand out. Hope this helps!

Come and join us at PNSQC to hear Sophia McKeever. "As A Constellation We Shine - Mentorship Through The Lens Of Shine Theory" The common belief is that mentorship is a one-way street, where a mentor benefits a mentee. However, mentorship done with empathy and intent can be a two-way street. By applying the fundamentals of Shine Theory in practice with mentorships, both the mentor and mentee can grow and learn from each other, shining together as their relationship flourishes. https://ow.ly/8sSp50RPr76

Each student is provided with a faculty mentor to help guide them towards reaching their goals. These mentors also update parents regularly on the progress of their student. ☺️ Discover more: https://hubs.li/Q01-XHMX0
