The rainy weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of 1,500 people who recently participated in a “Girls Can Fly” event hosted by the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre at the Region of Waterloo International Airport. As an event sponsor, our Education Committee staffed a booth in the hangar for students to talk with real-life airline pilots about the profession and continue our work of striving to inspire the next generation of airline pilots. F/O Elly Mansourian, who led our outreach at the event, and Capt. Seena Ali-Mirsalari (Air Canada Pilots), Capt. Mehrab Dastoor (Jazz Pilots), F/O Heather Jennings (ACA), and F/O Quinn Meyer (JAZ) talked specifically about flight training programs and scholarships. They also answered questions about ALPA and its role in the industry. Through these conversations, they inspired many young women from southern Ontario to become airline pilots and provided them with the tools to navigate the process. Our Education Committee promotes the piloting profession, mentors aspiring aviators, and prepares future generations of pilots to join the ranks of our members. Should you care about a flight school's professional partnership?⬇️ Absolutely. A flight school's professional partnerships – its relationships with airlines, helicopter operators, and other aviation industry employers – are critical to its students' ability to gain employment after training. These partnerships open doors to employment opportunities and ensure that students receive a comprehensive and industry-relevant education. ✈️ As you pursue your aviation journey, consider the strength of a flight school's connections within the industry. This factor can significantly impact your future success in the world of aviation. #AviationEducation #IndustryPartnerships #CareerPreparation

Accreditation Awareness - Aviation Mastery Monday Quiz ✈️ Why is choosing an FAA-accredited flight school beneficial for aspiring pilots? A) Guarantees job placement B) Ensures training adheres to safety and educational standards C) Provides cheaper courses D) Offers shorter courses Fun Fact: The FAA was formed in 1958 and is now a part of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Its standards for flight school accreditation are based on decades of aviation safety experience. The agency's roots go back to the Air Commerce Act of 1926, which was one of the first attempts to regulate civil aviation in the United States. FAA accreditation is a pivotal benchmark for flight training institutions today, ensuring they meet the highest safety and educational standards. Correct Answer: B) Ensures training adheres to safety and educational standards Explanation: FAA accreditation signifies that a school meets or exceeds the safety and educational criteria set forth by the FAA, crucial for competent training. #AccreditationAwareness #FAAExcellence #ChooseWisely

A-typical employment in the aviation sector! Ghent Study on Employment of Aircrew in European Aviation 2.0 We would like to present to you the project UGENT 2.0, a longitudinal reboot of the iconic reference pilot study of 2014 about employment in the European aviation industry (see New forms of employment in the aviation sector (eurocockpit.eu). We are happy to announce that the Ghent university has been given the chance to reinvestigate the aviation landscape 10 years later, this in cooperation with prominent aviation stakeholders (European Cockpit Association, European Transport Workers Federation, European Network Airlines' Association, …). Where the base study almost exclusively focused on the sole legal dimension of the employment situation, we will acknowledge the changing aviation landscape in a more holistic manner with this new study. Still starting from the legal cornerstone of the employment relationship, the ambition is to also study broader trends, the well-being and safety dimension, go into Covid-induced shifts, and focus on concerns of pilots and cabin crew members. This will be done based on a survey, case studies and desk-top research! Together with our postdoctoral researcher Lien Valcke (who recently defended her PhD on well-being, safety and atypical employment in the aviation sector) we are looking forward to this fascinating research! #Aircrew # atypical employment # well-being # ECA, ETF, ENAA #EU aviation #UGENT

Passion, admiration, and dreams are made at school level. What are we doing to encourage our young generation to be ready for aviation industry? Couple of mistakes we are making at this stage: 1. There are almost no programs that will engage young kids except for a few excursions, exhibitions, air shows, etc. Nothing that actually gets them to sit down for an hour or two and go through what a person does (focusing on the positive and exciting parts, every job has dull and stressful situations, no need to highlight). Spend a day in ATC for example. 2. Majority of the programs for school children are conducted in large cities or surrounding suburbs like Sydney and Brisbane. People living in these areas have more options to explore such as medical profession. In my opinion, there will be a higher success rate if programs targeted schools in semi-regional areas like Central Coast. Virtual mentoring program as an example. #talent #career #newgeneration #schooleducation #workexperience #aviation #aeronautics The human factor: inside the aviation talent crisis https://lnkd.in/gUNE2kTE

The Air League was the start of my aviation career. I was awarded 13 hours of flying lessons, leading me to get my PPL(A) back in 2021. If you’re thinking about starting training for your pilots licence, there’s no better way to start than with an Air League scholarship. Anyone is welcome to apply to the Air League Scholarships, there’s no upper age limit, and you could be awarded up to a full PPL’s worth of flying hours. It’s incredibly valuable: the work that the Air League do to strengthen the future of the industry at grassroots level is unmatched. We’re also the first in the UK to offer a funded Electric Flying Scholarship, leading the way for sustainable air mindedness in the next generation of aviators. Be a part of the future and see how amazing those Pipistrel Velis Electro aircraft are. Open to all working towards their PPL(A), up to x5 5 hour Scholarships available. Applications close on Sunday 31st March. If you can’t benefit, then please share: as someone in your network WILL. It costs nothing to share the post, and it may just introduce someone to an opportunity they never knew they had. The biggest barrier to young people starting a career in aviation is the financial barrier: let’s help to alleviate it. https://lnkd.in/ewCc4_K5 #aviation #flying #pilot #studentpilot #scholarship #career #opportunity #scholar #funding #sponsorship

🚀✈🚁 Should flight schools be made more responsible? 🚀✈🚁 ▪️As the keystone in the training of professional pilots, flight schools are flourishing in line with the economic climate. The recent bankruptcy of French school Paris Flight Training (PFT), two years after Airways College, raises the question of the responsibility and regulation of these schools. As a result, many trainees are left out in the cold, despite having paid tens of thousands of euros. ▪️When it comes to safety and the issuing of qualifications, civil aviation is closely monitored at both national and European level. It therefore seems totally incoherent that flight schools can be set up without any guarantees being given to trainees. ▪️Full training for an airline pilot in Europe costs around 100,000 euros. This sum generally has to be paid before the start of the training, with no particular guarantee in the event of the school going out of business. A regulatory requirement aimed at protecting trainees and providing guarantees seems more than necessary, given the upsurge in this type of problem. ▪️This means that today the best... and only guarantee remains choosing your flight school carefully.
