Every year, 500 billion paper cups are used worldwide. While a growing number of these cups are now made using biodegradable and recyclable materials, the issue persists: plastic lids. In the U.S. alone, where coffee-to-go culture thrives, billions of plastic lids are discarded annually.

We applaud all initiatives that replace traditional plastic to-go cups with sustainable alternatives. It's a great first step, but a recyclable paper cup with a plastic lid is only a partial solution. A pure paper lid, that is recyclable with the cup, is the natural next step.

Working closely with our converting partners, we’ve been experimenting with Colombier EcoBarrier cupstock for paper lids. We are thrilled to announce that the same plastic-free paper product used for ice-cream tubs, salad bowls, and coffee cups is now successfully converting to paper lids.

Material choice is crucial for ecological reasons, but the user experience is equally important for wide adaptation. The lid must firmly “click” in place – preventing hot contents from leaking. During our pilot tests with EcoBarrier lids, users appreciated the reassuringly secure feel and sound of the lid. With a snug fit on the cup, coffee enthusiasts enjoyed their beverages with confidence.

There are an increasing number of plastic lid substitutes entering the market. For now, companies that have invested in paper lid production use mostly plastic lined paper boards, that are not easily recyclable. We’re proud to offer a mono-material alternative: 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜-𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞, 𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐩 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝.
