"We invested in constructing the roads where people from all genders walk. Isn't that gender equality?" this statement is said by most government employees when you try to talk about gender budgeting. Saddened by the recent news; highlights the emergency to look into development topics through gender lens and identify the gaps to invest accordingly. This is not a new case but repeating year after year. How could we avoid these situations? I say, gender mainstreaming! #FeministFriday Kudos to CAPE for this easy-to-use inclusive writing guide. Why is inclusive, gender-neutral writing important? "Using gender-neutral language helps to break biases and gender stereotypes that emerge through our common ways of writing – often unconsciously. Inclusive language is critical to promote social change and gender equality, and ensuring all people, regardless of identity, feel recognized." https://ow.ly/HFbo50PE2Vw

We can't leave this for individual women to carry. There are many small steps we can take that will help. It just takes the will. Let's not settle for pay gap transparency - we need actual pay transparency - of pay rates, by gender and ethnicity. We also need transparency of other employment conditions (leave, flex work, time and paid access to training and development etc). Is this another type of gender and ethnic gap? Did you know that no one (govt agency, academic institution) gathers, holds or reports information about the terms and conditions of employment people have in their employment agreements? Do conditions vary by gender, ethnicity or disability status? Is there an invisible terms and conditions gap? We don't know. #informationispower #paytransparency
130 years after Suffrage, what will it take to shift the dial towards true gender equality in Aotearoa?! We acknowledge many of the wāhine toa helping to advance this cause - across politics, sports, public service, science, and the arts. But we are not there yet! What else can we each do to keep moving the dial in the fight for true gender equality in our country? #suffrage130 #genderequality
