Also:
11. Avoid directional words in the copy of Pendo Guides and how-to documentation (upper right; bottom left) as it's only useful for sighted users
12. "Select" instead of "Click" or "Tap" because not everyone is tapping the screen or using a mouse.
13. Gender-neutral terminology whenever appropriate--avoid pronouns in instructional text
14. Break up step-by-step processes into simpler, granular steps for scannability. For example:
1. Enter your name
2. Select save
15. Use actual coded H1s, H2s, and H3s whenever possible, as it works better for screen reader users and users working with keyboard shortcuts in lieu of a mouse
IAAP Certified Digital Accessibility Specialist | Inclusive Design | WCAG | I help companies make their sites work well for as many people as possible
Ten things content specialists and UX writers can do to make your work more inclusive:
1. Write a page title (the thing that shows up in the browser tab) for the page
2. Phrase error messages to be supportive and not blaming
3. Add in mental relaxers (like “You can change this setting later”)
4. Use facts like “There are 5 questions” instead of saying something is “quick” or “easy” (some people won’t find it quick or easy)
5. Add examples and help text
6. Write alt text for images (including icons if they don't already have text next to them)
7. Use headings that explain what the next section of the page is about
8. Have labels for form fields (not just placeholder text)
9. Write link and button text that explains what will happen if someone selects it (“Our products” instead of “Learn more”)
10. Use tools like Grammarly, Hemingway, or Word to check the reading level of the things you write
Feel free to add more ideas in the comments!

UX Writers/ Content Designers don't rush in; before you start writing anything, make sure to have a clear understanding of the larger picture, the context, the motives, the problems, and the solutions right before hitting the first keystroke on your new fancy mechanical keyboard ⌨️
Your eagerness to contribute to the UX process after weeks of waiting in line to participate is understandable. But burning a rubber here can damage the entire product. Why? Because writing without a thorough understanding of the whats and whys would only produce irrelevant content. Despite how fancy or stylish you write or how much experience you have in the field, starting to write without considering the context is a deadly mistake for the entire product.
Don't worry; we prepared a list of 10 questions to ask before starting writing👇

I've been writing on Medium a while, but I realised I hadn't actually written anything about writing. Here's a collection of tips, tricks and techniques to craft better copy. I rely on these guidelines in content design almost daily. https://lnkd.in/e6P4z2N2#uxwriting#contentdesign#userexperience
As a UX writer less familiar with design, one of the main challenges I encounter is finding the right balance between showcasing my writing and incorporating visually appealing graphics and wireframes in my presentations.
While designs can enhance the overall presentation, the primary goal of a UX writing case study is to highlight the writing itself, and I try to make that the focus which is sometimes a daunting task.
As a UX writer, what do you struggle with when presenting your writing?
