Last week's IMPROVE - 3Rs concepts to improve the quality of biomedical science (CA21139) Cost Action meeting in Utrecht, led by Winfried Neuhaus and Jeffrey Bajramovic, was exciting. Working Group 1, led by Nuno Henrique Franco, Bert Bettina, and Céline Heinl, focused discussions on Refinement (3Rs) through surveys and review papers. Discussion topics were- - #NAM in biomedical research, definition, relevance, potential challenges; - Refinement through environmental enrichment; - Culture of care. Overall, the meeting was inspiring, setting a positive direction for improving biomedical research via the 3Rs principles. For more information- https://cost-improve.eu/

The very 👉 FIRST global World Sepsis Day (WSD) 👈 was inaugurated on September 13, 2012 by Global Sepsis Alliance (www.sepsis.org) and it continues ever since! WSD increases awareness 📣 on this life-threatening disease ☠ among medical personnel and lay people alike. Our 👉 LBI Traumatology has been researching sepsis for many years contributing to the understanding of its pathophysiology and phenotypes. 👍 ⛑ 👨⚕️ 🔬 One of the most prominent examples of our sepsis-oriented works are the so called MQTiPSS - Minimum Quality Threshold in Pre-Clinical Sepsis Studies - an International Expert Consensus Initiative for Improvement of Animal Modeling in Sepsis Research. This was accomplished within the Wiggers-Bernard Conference Initiative organized in Vienna in 2017 (https://lnkd.in/dnygu4C2). We have currently 3 ongoing sepsis-oriented research projects; the most spectacular and recent one is collaborative BEATSepsis funded by the EU. We really hope we can make a difference in combating sepsis! 🤞
Today is #WorldSepsisDay! Our Sepsis-Trauma-Shock group led by Marcin Osuchowski is working hard to improve the diagnosis, treatment and understanding of sepsis and we are proud to be part of BEATsepsis, the international consortium for sepsis survivorship, funded by Horizon Europe. Kicking off from an excellent collaboration with Prof. David Hunter and Xiaoqian Liu, we're excited to share our latest publication comparing #placebo responses in internet-based versus onsite randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for hand osteoarthritis. 🔬 The study revealed no significant differences in placebo responses between the two study settings. Additionally, with the support of Placebell's digital solution, we found no differences in placebo response predictors, underscoring the reliability and efficacy of internet-based RCTs. This breakthrough paves the way for remote trials as a viable alternative and has the potential to enhance patient diversity and inclusion in clinical research. 'This theme highlights our belief in the important and necessary collaboration and partnerships that continue to improve the SEM landscape and its growing influence in the treatment of all areas of activity, not just elite sport. With this in mind, in partnership with SMNZ, the program will include a range of medical, musculoskeletal, ethical and other key topics in SEM.' - Mark Fulcher, ACSEP President on this year's scientific conferences theme of: Partnership 🤝 Collaboration 👥 Performance 🏃 Full Program 🔗 https://shorturl.at/oDLU6
