Exciting news from the American Academy of Optometry meeting today as #VTI has reported their interim results from the #PROTECT RCT on the use of #NaturalVue multifocal contact lenses for the control of myopia progression in children. I've had the opportunity to use these lenses for #presbyopia and #myopia for the last seven years and while I have observed great clinical findings and have contributed to two retrospective studies, these interim one year results in a well-designed randomized controlled double masked study should help practitioners and patients and parents gain some confidence in using this lens to treat myopia progression. In their interim report they found treatment effects as follows: Refractive Error (RE): 0.41 D (69%) vs. control group and Axial Length (AL): 0.17 mm (59%) vs. control group. These findings were very similar to the previously published real world studies. I do have a four year prospectively enrolled real world study in prep and if I ever get around to finishing it, I expect to show similar findings, you know, if I ever get around to publishing it. Stop nagging. I am a friend of the folks at VTI and a paid consultant, so bear that in mind, in case I'm the corruptible sort. Myopia may be sneaky, but early detection is the key! 🕵️♂️ Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a common refractive error that causes distant objects to appear blurry. Regular eye exams are essential for detecting myopia, as optometrists can measure the degree of nearsightedness and prescribe corrective lenses accordingly. Early identification of myopia in children is crucial, as it allows for interventions like orthokeratology or specialized contact lenses that may help slow its progression. Keep an eye out for signs, and schedule regular checkups to maintain crystal-clear vision.

If you live in Massachusetts, please take a minute to lend support to this bill- all you have to do is fill out this quick form ! https://p2a.co/aeq7NJA One of the big things we try to do in orthotics and prosthetics is help get our patients back to living healthy & active lives using a prosthesis or orthosis to help improve function. This is really hard to do when insurances push back or deny a device for a patient that needs it, as these devices are really expensive and many can’t afford the out of pocket cost. And most insurances will never cover prosthetic limbs that are for sports specific activities! Having insurance cover a prosthesis, including a sports-specific prosthesis, is a huge deal and helps people return to doing the things they love! 🦿🦾 If you want to read the bill first, you can find a copy here: https://lnkd.in/epxzegkD

Does knowledge of an injury count as a 'material fact' when considering the extension of a limitation period? Have a read below of our discussion of two recent Queensland decisions, Rodgers v Chinsee and Desmond-Bryzak v Lander, and how these cases help us interpret section 31 of the Limitations of Actions Act (Qld). Thanks to Bridget Wall and Tammy Tang for involving me in putting this article together!
