📢 A Critical Call to Support Canadian Family Medicine 📢 Canadian healthcare stands at a crossroads, facing an unsustainable strain that threatens the fabric of our community health. As family doctors, we navigate this pressure daily, contending with overwhelming workloads and the looming shadow of burnout. The core of this challenge? An immense administrative burden that diverts our focus from where it matters most—patient care. A recent survey by the The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) reveals a startling truth: 83% of family physicians are bogged down by federal health forms, a significant source of administrative strain. This not only fuels burnout but also hinders our capacity to provide comprehensive care. It's time for decisive action. We're calling on our federal MPs and provincial representatives to champion the support family medicine urgently needs. Here are our asks: 🚨 Centralize and Fund Support: Implement a federally-funded pool of qualified professionals to handle health forms, freeing family doctors to focus on direct patient care. 🚨 Simplify and Compensate: Streamline forms and ensure family doctors are adequately compensated without passing costs to patients. 🚨 Task Force Formation: Create a task force, including family doctors, to oversee the simplification of essential forms, aiming for efficiency and effectiveness. 🚨 Reduce Form Requirements: Where possible, eliminate the necessity for forms to be completed by family physicians, easing the administrative load. Your support for these measures can usher in a new era for family medicine in Canada, one where doctors can dedicate their time and expertise to what they do best—caring for patients. We urge every stakeholder in the healthcare ecosystem to rally behind these recommendations. Use the CFPC’s letter-writing tool to reach out to your elected officials. Together, we can drive meaningful change for the health of our nation. 🔗 Act Now: https://lnkd.in/gBE5VZep #HealthcareCrisis #SupportFamilyMedicine #CFPC #CanadianHealthcare #AdvocacyInAction #FamilyDoctors

Improving 'Death Literacy' is crucial for effective hospice care advocacy, and dispel any misconceptions that some may have about this line of care. Death Literacy refers to the knowledge and understanding of death, dying, and end-of-life care options. Clinicians play a vital role in improving death literacy by initiating conversations about end-of-life care options and providing resources and support. With that said, clinicians are not having enough of these conversations, which has led to the underutilization of this service line overall. When marketing your hospice care operation, we encourage that you do so via educational resources. The more knowledgeable your referral sources are about the benefits this line of care can provide to a patient, the more likely they are to send more patients to you. https://lnkd.in/eP8DXg3T #hospicecare #hospiceawarenessmonth #hospice #deathliteracy #hospiceworks #homehealth #homehealthcareservices #courageousconversations #National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization #homeandcommunitybasedservices #homecare #homecareservices

Incorporating critical thinking into pediatric patient advocacy involves several strategies tailored to the unique needs and challenges of children's healthcare. Here are some effective approaches: Understanding Developmental Stages: Tailor advocacy efforts to children's developmental stages, considering age, cognitive abilities, and communication skills. Holistic Assessment: Assess pediatric patients comprehensively, considering family dynamics, cultural background, and psychosocial factors impacting their well-being. Effective Communication: Facilitate clear and open communication between healthcare providers, patients, and families, ensuring the child's voice is heard and understood. Empowerment and Education: Empower families with knowledge and resources to participate in healthcare decisions and advocate for their child's best interests. Ethical Considerations: Navigate ethical dilemmas in pediatric advocacy, balancing principles such as autonomy, beneficence, and justice to ensure equitable care for all children. By incorporating critical thinking into pediatric patient advocacy, healthcare professionals can ensure that the unique needs and rights of children are prioritized and that they receive the best possible care and support throughout their healthcare journey.

Driving Mission Impact | Marketing, Communications & Branding Strategist | Building Powerful Nonprofits and Associations with Data & Storytelling
🏆 I am a champion for advocacy. One of the countless reasons I'm so passionate about nonprofits and associations is because of their ability to leverage the collective voices 📣 of members and communities to move the needle on important issues that matter. Recently, I had the pleasure of talking to my good friend and professional colleague, Cathey Wise, CAE, about some incredible approaches to advocacy she's initiated to help advance her organization, the Emergency Department Practice Management Association (EDPMA). The best ideas are always worth sharing. That's why I wrote this article that was recently published in the ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership newsletter, Associations Now. https://lnkd.in/gM-tKzbK Take a read then, share your ideas in the comments for making advocacy more accessible. What has worked for you or what's an idea you'd like to try? #advocacy #associationmanagement #associationleadership PS. If you're an ASAE member and have interest in joining me as a volunteer on the Advocacy Council, comment or message me - remember, advocacy is for EVERYONE and the deadline to apply is April 30.

I appreciate today's article by Dana Territo in The New Orleans Advocate about our efforts at the Louisiana State Capital. The State Advocacy Day, organized by the Alzheimer's Association Louisiana Chapter and Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM), brings advocates from Louisiana together to meet with policymakers. Their goal is to share personal stories and push for policies that enhance the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This annual event, which occurred on April 25 this year, saw Governor Jeff Landry declaring it Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias Awareness Day. Advocates like me, who have lost family members to the disease, emphasized the urgent need for support and research. They rallied on the Capitol steps, urging legislators to support Senate Bill 46, which aims to establish an advisory council to prioritize Alzheimer’s and related dementias as public health concerns in Louisiana. Senate Bill 46, if passed, will create the Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias Advisory Council, fostering collaboration between private sectors and state agencies. This initiative aims to raise awareness, improve healthcare, and support caregivers amidst the growing impact of Alzheimer’s on Louisiana's health systems and budgets. With projections indicating a significant increase in affected adults by 2025, addressing Alzheimer’s is crucial. The Alzheimer's Association® and AIM are committed to ongoing advocacy efforts, working with policymakers to tackle the dementia crisis and ensure coordinated responses at the state level.
