Since starting LEADING2RESULTS, reading and learning from different thought leaders has been a constant. I read before, I read more now (or listen to be accurate).   I was not familiar with the "Leadership Challenge" prior to starting the company, but found the book incredibly insightful - for a reason - it's the most exhaustive empirical leadership study ever done.    The first edition came out in 1987 and Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner are now on the 7th edition. What astonishing perseverance and commitment!   For someone with a long career behind them, everything in there will echo powerfully. And for leaders just starting, this will tell you what people consider great leadership (i.e. not the theory, but what people actually want to see "in practice").   This book is a must read for leaders and individual contributors alike.   The great personal anecdote is that when I told my father about it, he said - "oh, I know Jim" but haven't spoken to him in a looong time….and just like that - a couple of weeks later we had a Zoom meeting together with Jim :) What a fantastic moment!   Enjoy the book & for those who've already read it, please feel free to share some insights.   All the best to you on your leadership journey!   Jakob #leadership #management #theleadershipchallenge

The first step to solving any problem is knowing that you have a problem in the first place. Poor leaders often go charging off half-cocked in their eagerness to go fix things without first having a crystal-clear view of the real problem—right down to its very root, its very core. While it’s reassuring to have a boss who wants to face all issues, big or small, head-on, it’s only truly helpful when they come to the correct conclusion at the end. And if they aren’t really understanding the problem at hand, they are most likely coming to a disastrously incorrect conclusion. Just finished reading “Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter” by Liz Wiseman, and I must say, it’s a game changer. This book unveils how some leaders (Multipliers) amplify the intelligence and capabilities of their teams, in contrast to Diminishers who drain them. What struck me most was the concept of the “Accidental Diminisher” — a reminder of the unintended impact we can have on our team’s performance. Wiseman’s strategies for becoming a Multiplier, by empowering and investing in people’s growth, have reshaped my approach to leadership. Excited to share another great read with "Leading from the Edge" by Annmarie Neal. The book is based on the years of experience by the author working with leaders guiding global organizations. It challenges many traditional leadership norms so leaders can have a bigger positive impact on an organization and society. The author clearly outlines the benefits to organizations when leaders are open minded to diverse teams, embrace innovation, take a purpose driven approach to the company's mission, take calculated risks and take on a growth mindset that permeates through their organizations. You don't need to be a global leader to get a ton out of this book. This is great for any leader (formal or informal) to help springboard your success and the teammates you serve. I've been so pleased with the reception of my newest book, The Leadership Recipe!
