I'm so proud of my son for his recent graduation from Dartmouth. His time there had a rocky Covid beginning, but he absolutely killed it in the end: neuroscience, sociology, and health policy. And now only a short month off before going back to Hanover for the MPH program. A father couldn't wish for more.

Dartmouth Scholar | MPH Candidate at the Geisel School of Medicine | Health Policy and Clinical Practice

This past Sunday, I graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in Neuroscience and minors in Health Policy and Sociology. When I began college, I felt certain of the path I was meant to take; I was, like many students, wrong. But as my undergraduate journey unfolded, slowly and surely my interests became more clearly illuminated, and from the bud of uncertainty bloomed a passion for both healthcare and the people that constitute it. Throughout the tumult of the past four years—from COVID to commencement—I was never alone, and I am beyond grateful for the army that propped me up and kept me going. Therefore, some thank you's are in order: I would first like to thank those who helped me find my space in the healthcare world outside of academia like Joella Gibbs from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) the supervisor for my first ever internship, who welcomed me warmly into the world of health policy as well as the general federal landscape. Additionally, under the auspices of Kirk Greenway of the Indian Health Service's Offices of Program Statistics and Public Health, I learned that, despite my previous fears, I was capable of data-wrangling and visualization I never thought possible. I also want to extend a special shout out and profound thank you to Dr. Karen Fortuna who throughout the past several years has given me the opportunity to participate in critically important research regarding peer therapies for mentally ill individuals, and has been an amazing mentor throughout my ever-changing ideas about where I want my future to head. I would also be remiss if I did not thank the faculty at Dartmouth who guided and supported me throughout my college journey. Thank you to Professors Shawn Winter, Allen Koop, and Julie Kalish for your kindness and support at one point and another during the past several years. From each of you I have learned so much. I am also grateful to Kristin Smith for her mentorship during my time at the Policy Research Shop at The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth College, as well as Brendan Nyhan for teaching me the rigors of experimental design and authoring. A final thank you goes to Cooper Hyldahl, Elizabeth Lee, Caileigh Dowell, Piper Gilbert, Lauren Heller, Grace Wilkins, and my family, who were all a crucial part of my journeys both at Dartmouth and in life. Following this summer, I will be returning to New Hampshire to earn my Masters in Public Health at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth as a Dartmouth Scholar awardee and recipient. I look forward to deepening my impact in the public health and health policy spheres.
