Athletes need a balance of speed, strength, endurance, and muscle size. While there are many ways to accomplish this, one approach used by many professional coaches is to incorporate multiple performance modalities into each day or week. For those familiar with the science, evidence base, and coaching of program design and periodization would recognize this general philosophy includes approaches such as “Undulating Periodization,” “Vertical Integration,” “Conjugate,” and many more. This contrasts the classic “Linear Periodization” tactic of sticking to one primary training goal for large periods of time (4-12 weeks) and then changing to the next goal. To be clear, there is no one perfect approach. Both have pros and cons. It’s not about thinking that one method is ALWAYS better than another. It’s about understanding these benefits and drawbacks and then applying the right technique to the given situation, goals, client, and context. For athletes, as you draw closer to competition, I almost always lean towards this mixed adaptation approach — where we do some combination of agility drills, strength exercises, hypertrophy work, and endurance training. This keeps all your physical attributes stimulated and prevents the loss of hard-earned muscle and strength, allowing you to adapt to the dynamic demands of your sport. A holistic training strategy also helps maintain connective tissue health and prevent injuries. By varying your workouts, you reduce the risk of overuse injuries and promote overall athletic longevity. Hey Andy, happy Fourth of July on his beautiful Independence Day ! Right now I’m on creatine mono hydrate as usual arginine some whey protein and HMB. I feel like too good that I almost feel like I’m cheating along with hard training a little more than average nutrition. I feel amazing 54 years old people are losing out so much on their health just taking it for granted every single day I think people like you out there that have dedicated their life to the advancement of human evolution God bless and have a great fourth again !!!! 🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥

This is what I lacked as an athlete. I was trying to balance powerlifting and BJJ. BJJ requires more than absolute strength, and I was neglecting the athletic portions of it.
