Is leadership as we know it undergoing a revolution? According to a compelling piece by the New York Times, the world is witnessing a significant shift in leadership dynamics. The article explores how women are increasingly taking center stage, bringing about progressive changes in the global arena. A fresh perspective, empathy, resilience, and a unique leadership style are their guiding principles. But what does this mean for the future of leadership? Do you believe this trend will continue to grow, or will the traditional leadership dynamics reassert themselves over time? https://lnkd.in/gS93RCJc #Leadership #WomenInPower #SeekingLeadersForGlobalChange

“People with lived experience are waking up to realise… we have agency and power to change things, to confront the system” – Conference participant. In April of this year, Migration Exchange co-organised the Reclaiming Lived Experience Leadership conference with Freedom from Torture, Refugee Action and Refugee Council. It was a day full of amazing insights from people that work in and fund the UK refugee and migration sector. To capture and share the learnings and key insights from the day, we have put together a report. In this event we explored three key areas: defining lived experience leadership, identifying and dismantling barriers to power, and enhancing career opportunities. 💡 If you are interested in hearing more about these discussion, visit our website to download the report: https://bit.ly/4czNQ9O

Leadership coach for change-makers | Organisational strengthening | Facilitator | 25+ years of government, foreign aid and private sector experience | Foreign aid consultancy & advisory | PNG & Pacific specialist.
I was asked why I work in PNG and the Pacific. I started in engaging with the region in 2004 when I was still in the government. From my work I met many impressive people who were committed to supporting the growth of their nations. When I left the government, I was invited to apply for some roles in the Pacific, which I won, and the people I have worked with each time has reinforced my appreciation for each nation, and how important it is to value the differences between us. Making assumptions has always been where problems occur in my life. Believing my way of thinking or values are the same as others, or the ‘right’ way to do things. Working with other cultures reminds me daily of the importance to truly listen to what is being said. To ask questions when unsure, and to humble myself in recognising my expertise doesn’t mean I have the answers – it means I am a resource to help those within the culture find solutions. Engaging with diversity is a gift. It helps you see in areas where you have been blind in the past. In areas where your culture or upbringing may have given assumptions that are not valid for others. Assuming our way is right, is usually wrong! Q: Why do I work in PNG and the Pacific? A: Because they make me a better person. #xseedlead #deborahknight #careers #leadership #management #government #foreignaid #localisation #staffdevelopment

"We must find the time to stop and thank those the people who make a difference in our lives." - John F Kennedy Who made a difference to you in your professional career? Have you ever had a good mentor? Here at UNHCR Copenhagen we have a Mentoring program which is organized by my colleague Ane Cecilie Hess-Nielsen. Junior staff members can apply to be pared with more senior colleagues in order to receive guidance on all kinds of topics centring around their career aspirations and growth. I have the great pleasure to be paired with Rosie Innes. Rosie is a learning and development professional with over 30 years of professional experience. She has worked in many different contexts and countries and always has lots of good and relevant advice and anecdotes. Her continuous drive and dedication to learn and develop herself as well as to improve work environments are truly inspiring. Both, in my function as HR professional but also as junior staff at an organization, I really appreciate this opportunity to get insights from someone who has already faced many difficult decisions and challenges. If you do not yet have a mentorship initiative at your office or company, I can only recommend suggesting this to senior management. Keep in mind to use a relevant questionnaire to pair mentors and mentees based on their career interests as well as experience levels. #humanitariansatwork #unhcr #mentoring
