Ward Wilson is a friend of mine. He comes from the completely opposite side of the nuclear weapons discussion, but in our limited times talking, we have enjoyed several hours of conversation and getting to know each other.
.
His new book “It is Possible: A Future without Nuclear Weapons” is a very good constructivist approach to #nuclearweapons and the understanding underlying the decision space. He argues that the weapons are fundamentally symbols in the international relations world that have been mis-valued and represent a false narrative of reality. Therefore he argues the construct is flimsy and does not reflect reality as seen through his review of history and current understanding.
.
There are good points in this book and it does provide the reader a basic understanding of how nukes are used. Though a deeper dive into some of the facets show some of the weakness in his argument. I do recommend this to people to read … more from the construct explaining the overall concepts.
.
I am writing a book review for #AirSpaceOperationsReview and submitting it by the end of the month.
.
Good work Ward on a solid project. Proud to call you a colleague even though we disagree.
