The President of Spain's Telefónica calls for an International agency to regulate AI According to José María Alvarez Pálleme, «for the first Tim in history, humans are going to generate something that is capable of thinking. Descartes said ‘cogito ergo sum’, ‘I think and then I exist'. And machines think», Perhaps he is thinking about General AI, which while it is being developed it is no expected to be active for a good number of years. Now, AI regulation is already been debated, and there are draft regulations prepared by the EU's Parliament. An international agency (most likely akin to any of the specialized agencies of the United Nations) is unlikely to have the power to enact regulations and much less to enforces them. Such regulations would have to be agreed upon freely by interested countries in the form of a treaty, which would be unable to catch up with the dizzying speed of AI's growth and application. #ai #growth #power #regulation #internationalagency #unitednations #machinethinking #generalai #descartes

Many companies have started using #general generative AI or #sectoral generative AI systems and have already been able to verify their benefits. However, in the near future it will cease to be a differentiating element and will become indispensable.
