If you are trying to write a book then carry a notepad and pen with you everywhere. You could use your phone but then there are distracting notifications and tempting apps. So try this instead. Does it works for you? And here are 10 'pockets of time' you could be using to write: 1. Waiting in a coffee shop when a friend is running late. 2. Kept waiting for a delayed doctor/dentist app (or any app). 3. On your commute or any trains/bus journeys (can also be great for inspo). 4. Get up a little earlier or go to bed a bit later, it's only temporary after all. 5. While you're waiting for your kids at their hobbies or while the dog is at the groomers. 6. Use a 1/4 of your lunch break. 7. While you're at the hairdressers/barbers or any kind of app you can still write. 8. Anytime a meeting or Zoom is cancelled. 9. Join a writing group that meets regularly. 10. Find a few local writers and meet up for co-writing sessions (great for accountability too!) Don't wait until you 'have time'. You gotta carve it out and just write when you can. @KirstenRees #BookEditor #WriteABook P.S. Got a question about becoming a published author? I'm world-building, character-developing, tale-spinning, content-creating and trying to make you laugh all at the same time.
When I saw this post about Writer's Block I just had to jump in. Often times what we call writer's block is not a lack of ideas, but too many ideas. The key is just get started. That's all easier said than done, though, isn't it? Writer's Block is one of life's great mysteries to me. Sometimes the words flow like water. Once I decide what I'm going to write about, I have a hard time shutting up. Yes, I'm one of those people. But then what's actually going on when I do get stuck? Because that happens, too. Solving that problem is my life's mission; not just writer's block, but all kinds of resistance that stop people from taking action. Momentum is almost always on your side. Once you start, it's easier to keep going. If you have to start with just one word, do that. If you have to start by using someone's post as a writing prompt, then do that! Then try to maintain that. Write something else. Keep it going. When a stray thought pops into your head, quickly write it down somewhere else: use notepad on your phone, or use a notion template for cultivating ideas. Saving every idea outside of your head makes room inside for the thing you are working on right now. So, if you have the problem of too many ideas, take my advice and stop fighting that. Just give every idea a place to wait. Promise that idea that you'll come back for it, later. I promise this will help.
