I was working on a social media platform inspired by Threads. I could manage to build a small MVP with pretty much most of the functionalities that Threads have, where you can post threads, comment on others' threads, create your own community, change the profile picture and more. I learned new technologies while building the project, such as Clerk authentication, Shadcn UI, Next.js server actions which abstracted away the need for a separate Node.js back-end server with API calls which I have employed many times in my previous projects. Integrating a basic GET API route using Expo Router V3 in React Native. This feature represents the first step towards making the Expo ecosystem increasingly resemble the world of Next.js, essentially evolving the Expo router into a comprehensive full stack framework. Note that this experimental feature is focusing on data retrieval only - without SSR capabilities (at least for the moment 😆). Super handy when building a small full stack project, or query an external service without exposing your API key on the client side.
