The medals of the next Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 have been unveiled! Whether they are gold, silver or bronze, they will all contain a very special piece of metal that was once part of the Eiffel Tower. Cut into a hexagon, the geometric shape evokes France to the point of becoming its nickname. Also on the same side, thin lines are projected at irregular intervals all around the iron hexagon. Struck rather than engraved, these rays bring relief and shine to a medal that is far from smooth. I've long held a fascination for captivating and lesser-known narratives and anecdotes within the realm of sports. Some of these stories are truly inspiring, while others can leave you surprised or amazed. With that in mind, I'm eager to share a selection of some these compelling stories here. 2016 Paralympics Games - 1500 meter final While the Paralympic Games typically receive less attention than the Olympics, the 2016 edition was far from short of extraordinary moments. A striking example of this was the 1,500-meter T13 final, which defied the assumption that Paralympians would invariably post slower times compared to their Olympic counterparts. In this gripping race, four visually impaired athletes, namely Abdellatif and Fouad Baka from Algeria, Tamiru Demisse from Ethiopia, and Henry Kirwa from Kenya outpaced the Olympic champion, American Matthew Centrowitz Jr., in the 1,500 meters. Abdellatif Baka's remarkable gold-winning time of 3:48.29 not only secured his Paralympic victory but also established a new world record in his classification. To provide context, Centrowitz's Olympic time was 3:50.00. This stunning achievement underscored the exceptional abilities of Paralympic athletes and challenged prevailing stereotypes. 100 days to go until the Para Athletics competitions during Paris 2024 Paralympic Games! 🎖️ Join Panasonic and Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft OBE, PLY, DL as we look forward to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Hannah will be joined by up to 4400 athletes competing in 549 medal events in the French capital from August 28th to September 8th. Para Athletics is the largest sport on the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games programme in terms of the number of athletes competing and the number of medal events and its competitions will start on August 30th. Did you know that Para Athletics was one of the eight sports included in the first Paralympic Games in Rome, Italy, in 1960? Athletes compete in each event according to their specific classification. Olympic Wrestler Grace Bullen demonstrated her famous helicopter throw on yours truly, and I am now 100% certain that she will secure a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Paris 🇳🇴 I am proud to announce that KONGSBERG will extends its partnership with the SUMMIT project with Olympiatoppen, to include both the 2024 and 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. We have been a partner of SUMMIT 2024 for two years, and we are now extending our partnership for a new four-year period. What these athletes and KONGSBERG have in common is that we compete at the top of our fields internationally. The margins are small. To win gold, you need talent, dedication and an almost infinite amount of hours training. We’re happy to contribute to giving Grace and the other athletes a community of sponsors, enabling them to focus on performing in the Olympics. Olympiatoppen and the Norwegian Confederation of Sports launched SUMMIT 2024 in 2022 as a joint effort between businesses, the public and athletes. The goal was to lift ten selected sports to medals and success at the Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris in 2024. The project includes 130 athletes in total, fighting for tickets to the Olympics and Paralympics, and medals when they get there. KONGSBERG is one of three partner companies in SUMMIT 2024, and the first partner company to sign for SUMMIT 2028.
