Looking forward to participating in the 20th International CDIO Conference. ⭐ Presenting a pedagogical paper on: 'Active Learning in Engineering Mathematics: Starting with the Big Problem' that explores reimagining the teaching and learning of mathematics for engineering students with a focus on integrating more real-life applications and examples, and reordering the topics - breaking with convention. ⭐ Leading on a roundtable discussion with my fantastic collaborators Ernest Ampadu from KTH Royal Institute of Technology Sweden, Hanne Deprez from KU Leuven and Edward Causton from Nottingham Trent University on: 'Interdisciplinary Learning in Engineering Mathematics: Case Studies and Examples' with an aim of developing a global Community of Practice. 💡 Maybe I'd also get to share my initial reflections on how things went with my plans to integrate a 'Hooke's Law Apparatus' (who doesn't like props!) to engage student learning and appreciation of the concepts around Ordinary Differential Equations and Multivariate Functions. 🎩 I can only hope some mathemagics happen! https://cdio.esprit.tn/ http://cdio.org/

Join us in celebrating Summer School alum Vrishank's achievement! His essay, "Addressing the Digital Divide: What is the Future of Book Drives?" will be published in the Journal of Futures Studies. In this essay, Vrishank explores the impact of books on underprivileged children and the growing digital divide. He uses futures and foresight methodologies, such as Causal Layered Analysis, to assess the problem through its four layers: surface, systemic, worldview, and myth & metaphor. Brilliant use of digital mapping!!
Exciting news from San Francisco! 🤩 Our team is launching the most comprehensive Interactive Map of World History, https://timemap.org/, at an event organized by Stanford University. Check out the event here: https://lnkd.in/dfxF-RXp - attending at 9:30 PST (18:30 CET) is possible over Zoom, if you register ahead. With TimeMap.org, you can pick a place on a map, set a year on a time slider, and travel back in time. Learn about the names of countries of the past, rulers and kings, battles, famous artists and musicians, mathematicians, and more. This interactive tool may transform how people access and engage with history, allowing them to check facts while watching the news, talking to friends, preparing school homework, or visiting a historical site with family. Don't forget to 🔃 repost and 👍 like to spread the word! Visit https://timemap.org/ tomorrow and anytime later to access this free, mobile-optimized resource. Announcements followed by discussion with David Rumsey of David Rumsey Map Center at Stanford University Libraries, Frederic Kaplan from Time Machine Organisation & EPFL, and Elton Barker from The Open University and Pelagios project.

In order to achieve the promise of Space Research, for the constrained problem spaces of space to spur the development of technology that serves the broader world back home we need to fight now enshrine open principles. As we move out of the era of space as a public good and into the era of commercial space we must make it clear that if Earth is to bear the burden of a developing space industry, it must also share in the benefits. Space may be the final frontier, but contrary to popular narratives, those on the frontier are all the more dependent on others to survive.
Last year, the GOSH Community and The Wilson Center organized a workshop reflecting on the role of open science hardware for space research and charting a possible path toward wider adoption. We are excited to announce a new report describing the workshop's origins, the diversity of expertise represented during its proceedings, lessons learned, and a prospective look at the next steps.
