Last year, we have signed the European Commission’s Sustainable Consumption Pledge: a voluntary commitment towards sustainable consumption and production and zero pollution, beyond what is required by law.   Our commitment to the pledge is about contributing to the circular economy and achieving emission reductions. By reducing energy consumption and using renewable energy, using renewable and recyclable/compostable materials, and enabling reuse where possible, we want to ensure that resources don’t go to waste.   To promote the new round of submissions to the Sustainable Consumption Pledge, the European Commission has created a video featuring… us! A very important part of our journey to net zero is to identify and shift to climate smart materials and one way we do that is to work closely together with our suppliers to reduce the footprint of sourced materials.

Well done Tesco Ireland for such a big step towards a more sustainable fleet. The immediate impact this will have in terms of reduced carbon output is substantial, and I am looking forward to seeing this transformation stimulate the entire market.
