Life & Leadership Coach | I help working moms push past the BS & the mom guilt so they accomplish their goals while feeling amazing about focusing on themselves.
Watching the #MomsFirstSummit thinking it should be required viewing for all legislators & elected politicians. Anyone should tune in if you get a break in your day today.
Our country loves to divide moms — whether it's working moms vs. stay-at-home moms, Black moms vs. white moms, or breastfeeding moms vs. formula-feeding moms — there are so few opportunities for solidarity among mothers in America. Moms First is changing the story of the American experience of motherhood. At the #MomsFirstSummit, we are creating a new identity around motherhood — one that transcends individual experiences and fosters a sense of collective empowerment and community. Cannot believe it's all happening tomorrow! You can still register for the livestream at MomsFirstSummit.us. Read more via Forbes: https://lnkd.in/eeWGP-H3

There are distinct racial and ethnic disparities when it comes to chest feeding initiation rates. We see these rates fluctuate from upwards of 90% (hey, Asian families 👋🏽) to 73.6%. 73.6% of Black families are choosing to feed their children with human milk. Specifically, they are choosing to initiate breastfeeding. But why are the rates so low when compared to other families? From stigma to a lack of peer support, Black families are reporting not having the same “chance” to commit to body feeding their infants. Black families are not able to access reliable, culturally congruent information about lactation. This Black Breastfeeding Week, we need to focus on creating spaces for Black providers to get necessary information to disseminate to their communities. 66% of lactation professionals are white. Only 10% are Black. For IBCLCs, this number is lower being estimated at less than 2%. That is a problem. Now more than ever, we need to rally behind Black lactation professionals to create a more accessible system for all.
