The inclusion of the voices of indigenous people in the national governance with special status is essential for a number of reasons: Firstly, the special voice status encourages the distinct rights, interests, and perspectives of indigenous people are adequately recognized, represented and safeguarded, providing a platform for addressing historical injustices and ongoing inequities. Indigenous representation fosters a pluralistic and inclusive democratic environment, enriches the political dialogue, contributes diverse worldviews and approaches to problem-solving, and enhances the overall legitimacy and responsiveness of political institutions by ensuring that they are reflective of the diverse constituencies they serve. It is also a recognition of our collective (not just indigenous) relationships with lands, resources, and ecosystems, developed over millennia, and could encourage or nudge everyone towards a sustainable development. Here is an interesting article about the Voice: https://lnkd.in/gKdnt-sv

I am happy to share this new publication! I am so glad to see this piece on The Americas. Delving on Tiburcio Campe's story, I demonstrate how Anti-Spanish policies and banishment from Mexico renewed Spanish liberal exiles' advocacy of empire in the late 1820s. What did they do? They went to New Orleans, where they allied with Spanish representatives in Cuba and the U.S to disseminate their message in the transatlantic public sphere. The article shows two things: 1. That the debates regarding political and racial equality in the new Spanish American republics shaped exiles' agenda. 2. The role of Spanish liberal exiles in expanding counterrevolutionaries' range of action in the Atlantic World. Check the article in this link: https://lnkd.in/ebJM_xBf

It's National Reconciliation Week This year’s theme is ‘Now More Than Ever’ and it's a great reminder for us all to reflect on our roles in advancing reconciliation in Australia. WSMRC acknowledges and commits to learning and understanding more about the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Let's take this time to listen, learn, and act. Here are a few ways we can contribute: 1.Educate ourselves about the histories and cultures of First Nations peoples. 2.Support Indigenous businesses and artists. 3.Engage in meaningful conversations about reconciliation. 4.Attend local events and show solidarity. Every action counts in building a more just and equitable society. Let's make a difference, now more than ever.
