A blockbuster movie is a term used to describe a highly successful and popular film that achieves significant commercial success, typically in terms of box office revenue. Blockbuster movies are often characterized by high production values, large budgets, extensive marketing campaigns, and wide theatrical releases. They tend to attract large audiences, both domestically and internationally, and often dominate the box office upon release. Blockbuster movies may also spawn sequels, spin-offs, merchandise, and cultural impact beyond the realm of cinema. 2023's top "Blockbusters" were Barbie - $1,445,638,421 Was Blockbuster, The Super Mario Bros. I was thinking about this the other day - Disney’s acquisition of the rest of Hulu and doubling down on ESPN (as well as the Fox purchase) are all signals that mgmt isn’t confident in the growth prospects for Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars. Iger keeps saying they need to focus, so the easy decision should be to focus on their core brands. Instead they are cutting back their investment in core IP (less content) and buying $10b of more of general entertainment. Problem is, Hulu and ESPN don’t drive Parks or merch, which are the profit centers. Again I think it’s obvious the solution is to divest of linear and buy a games publisher. Expand into a new entertainment vertical that’s bigger than film + TV while acquiring / creating new IP.
In a skewed irony, DC actually won the DC vs. Marvel war because Disney is now almost entirely dependant on MCU movies, while Warner Bros. doesn’t need DC flicks for box office glory.
With Hits Like 'Color Purple' and 'Wonka,' Warner Bros. Doesn't Need DC Superheroes

Barbie crossed 1B USD box office collections globally, i.e. 459M in North America and 572M internationally. In my view it is a turning point for media and entertainment industry: 1. Theatrical business is back in business. 2. It will be a strong signal that theatrical releases can give you upfront returns on your content acquisition. 3. Streaming platforms especially those who make "originals" need to rethink their strategy - they should look at leveraging the theatrical releases too 4. Audience is thriving back to theater's and will support if the content is great 5. North America collection is 44% while international collections are 56%, amazing to see the appeal for Barbie globally https://lnkd.in/ep_VUaau Motion Picture Laboratories, Inc. Amid the cinema buzz for Barbie / Oppenheimer, I'm reminded of ways the big screen can venture into creative:media beyond the 30sec spot. My top cinema memory? The Batman at my local theater, The Rio, last year – a brilliant partnership between Oreo & Warner Brothers that transformed Movie Night into an immersive three-day Gotham City saga. It featured: 🎭 Live Performance & Actors: Picture this – before the movie begins, 20 live actors take the stage in a captivating 10-minute performance, including an intense Gotham police clash. 🌆 Cinematic Gotham: For a weekend, the theater turned into Gotham City, Bat-Signal aglow, igniting each night. 🎁 Exclusive Bat-Treats: Every moviegoer left with a piece of the Batman universe – exclusive merchandise that elevated the experience beyond a mere screening. It wasn't just about the film; it became an immersive haven for collectors and enthusiasts. #creativemedia #mediaexperiences

With STAR Cineplex set to screen Christopher Nolan's iconic films "The Dark Knight" and "Interstellar" next month, fans are buzzing with excitement to relive the magic of these classic blockbusters on the big screen. But what if this is just the beginning of something bigger? Imagine the possibilities if they regularly featured old blockbusters alongside new releases. This could potentially boost their sales, as people may jump at the chance to watch their favorite classic movies in a theater setting. For example, if you're a Marvel Entertainment fan and Star Cineplex offered a month-long marathon of all the Marvel movies, wouldn't that be an thrilling prospect? Or if you're an anime enthusiast who adores Studio Ghibli films, wouldn't a week-long showcase of their hit movies be a dream come true? By embracing this idea, Star Cineplex could tap into a powerful sense of nostalgia among their dedicated consumers while also attracting new audiences who may have missed these films during their initial runs. It's a strategy that could not only increase their profits but also solidify their position as a go-to destination for movie lovers of all kinds. As the cinema industry evolves, it might be time for them to think outside the box and celebrate the incredible films that have shaped our cultural landscape. #movies #starcineplex #entertainment #business #bangladesh
