“We must solve the issue of aging grids today to prevent a looming infrastructure crisis tomorrow” our CEO Scott Strazik has examined the importance of grids for the #EnergyTransition in Europe on Euractiv. Europe’s path to #netzero means meeting many ambitious goals by 2030, including the reduction of net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% and supporting individual decarbonisation efforts like heat pumps and electric vehicles. GE Vernova believes that modernised grids will realise the energy security imperative in the EU by integrating more renewables and allowing the implementation of new technologies. Luckily, there is a renewed attention to grids in the EU, with the European Commission coming forward with the Grids Action Plan end of last year to accelerate investments. This has been a crucial step, and we must keep the momentum. Really glad to be here at 2024 Shanghai Carbon Neuttality Expo! Energy Transition, Low-Carbon Tranportation, Energy Efficiency, Circular Economy, Low-Carbon Service, Practice&Explotation are the six main themes of the expo. Saw so many technical solutions to provide green electricity while meeting the energy demand. Hydrogen, nuclear energy, stored energy has been main contributor for low-carbon energy sources, can reduce millions of tons carbon emissions annually. Digital technology, represented by artificial intelligence, plays an important role in helping the world to combat climate change. From the perspective of reducing emissions, if AI is used for climate control, 2.6 to 5.3 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases could be reduced by 2030, with an incremental economic impact of $1 trillion to $3 trillion. （Source: Vision of Zero-Carbon) 2024 The first half of the year has seen the introduction of a number of norms, both domestically in China and internationally, requiring or guiding listed companies, large non-listed companies and even small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make climate disclosures, and the CDP will also be launching a disclosure questionnaire for SMEs this year. In the future, environmental information disclosure will gradually become more popular and mandatory, and the environmental and social impacts of enterprises will be an issue that every company must face.

Decarbonization and clean energy are vital aspects of combating climate change and achieving a sustainable future. Decarbonization refers to the process of reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions, primarily coming from burning fossil fuels, industrial processes, and other human activities. Clean energy, on the other hand, refers to energy sources and technologies that produce minimal or no greenhouse gas emissions. Examples include renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and bioenergy, as well as nuclear power, which generates electricity without producing direct carbon emissions. The transition to clean energy and decarbonization is essential to mitigate the impacts of climate change, reduce air pollution, and create a more environmentally friendly and resilient energy system for future generations.
