In 2019, Gartner coined the term SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) to combine SD-WAN capabilities with cloud-delivered security services. Even though networking and security are closely interrelated, they remain two different and very complex domains of expertise. Security evolves rapidly to ensure protection against ever changing cybersecurity risks, while wide area networking is about providing fast, robust, and flexible connections. Additionally, security and networking are typically managed by different teams. In early 2022, Gartner released the SSE Magic Quadrant as a new category for the cloud-delivered security component of SASE. #SANS survey on "Breaking IT/OT Silos With ICS/OT Visibility" by Jason Christopher highlights some interesting stats. # Digital transformation initiatives with need for greater convergence, IIOT, connectivity, remote access, edge-based cloud access, vendor management & analytics - all necessitate importance of #industrialcyberrisks and need for great visibility across IT/OT networks. # trends around SOCs and their impact on overall visibility, as well as the expansion of EDR and NSM deployments. # A collaborative effort among security professionals, engineers, and operators. # Cross-training teams for security operations, understanding how cyber incidents traverse IT and OT boundaries, and working to alleviate the barriers listed across this survey will create a foundation of success for any ICS/OT security program. I think this excerpt from the report says it all: “Time has moved quickly since STG – Symphony Technology Group acquired McAfee's enterprise business and FireEye products to form Trellix in late 2021. Judging by past mammoth pairings of security vendors, Trellix inherited a cynical perception bias. Now more than two years out, Trellix has proven that this bias was misplaced. The company has effectively merged the two companies culturally and operationally to foster a unified customer-facing mission of bringing the best of the two companies together and forming a foundation of continuous advancement.” Thank you for the direction, diligence and attention to detail in both these reports, Michael Suby and IDC. It’s a great asset for both enterprises and midsize businesses looking for a modern approach to endpoint security and a platform approach to extended detection and response (XDR).
