June has been a vibrant celebration of love, inclusion and community at Benevity! 🌈💙 Our BeneviQueers employee resource group (ERG) hosted a series of events that brought us together to celebrate, learn and support the LGBTQ+ community. Here are some of our #PrideMonth highlights: 🤝 A virtual volunteering event in collaboration with Micro Rainbow and OUTMemphis! We learned about their impactful programs and the power of small micro-volunteer actions. 🎙️ BeneviQueers hosted insightful panels and workshops on important topics like workplace inclusion and active allyship. 🍪 We celebrated across our offices by hosting summer socials featuring rainbow treats from local Queer businesses. 🎨 Calgary-based Benevity-ites volunteered in support of the Centre for Sexuality by making buttons for the local Pride Parade. Massive thanks to BeneviQueers for leading these important conversations and organizing such impactful events. Diversity and inclusion should be celebrated every day. We're celebrating Pride Month by wholeheartedly supporting the LGBTQ+ community's inclusion within the construction industry as well as supporting a fully inclusive and diverse workplace. Toolbox talks on the matter are essential. Speaking about inclusion in the workplace is critical for safe work environments, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is not just a celebration... Although it is an important time to celebrate the progress that has been made across legislation, attitudes and behaviours, it is also a continued protest. At Allianz Technology we want to ensure we’re encouraging everyone to take a practical, holistic approach to LGBTQ+ inclusion that goes beyond rainbow logos. As most of us know, June is Pride month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and honor the progress that has been made towards equality and inclusion. It is also a time to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to ensure that everyone feels accepted and supported for who they are. As we celebrate queerness this month, let's also take the opportunity to think about how we can promote diversity and inclusion in our workplaces and communities. Here are a few ideas to get started: 1. Host a virtual Pride event: Organize a virtual celebration with guest speakers, workshops, and activities that promote understanding and acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals. 2. Educate yourself and others: Take the time to learn about the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals and the issues they face. Share what you learn with others to promote understanding and empathy. 3. Rainbow Washing Pride Month #June As we step into June, the month dedicated to celebrating #Pride, it’s important to reflect on how we genuinely support the #LGBTQ+ community. While many companies will change their logos to rainbow colors, we must ask ourselves: Are they celebrating Pride every day, or is it just for show? Tips to Identify Rainbow Washing Initiatives: 1. Temporary Branding Changes: - Look out for companies that change their logos and branding to rainbow colors only during Pride Month but fail to make long-term commitments to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. 2. Lack of Internal Policies: - Be wary of businesses that promote Pride externally but do not have inclusive policies, such as non-discrimination policies, for their employees. 3. No Tangible Support: - Identify companies that use Pride imagery in their marketing but do not donate to LGBTQ+ causes or support LGBTQ+ organisations. 4. Inconsistent Advocacy: - Notice brands that show support during Pride Month but remain silent or support anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and politicians the rest of the year. 5. Superficial Representation: - Watch for campaigns that feature token LGBTQ+ individuals without truly engaging with the community or understanding their issues. 6. Employee Treatment: - Consider the history of companies regarding their treatment of LGBTQ+ employees, despite their public Pride campaigns. 7. Lack of Accountability: - Be mindful of businesses that do not hold themselves accountable for past actions or fail to show transparency in their efforts to support the LGBTQ+ community.
