The World Broadband Association was stablished in July 2021, the mission of the WBBA is to bring together cloud and broadband industry stakeholders to address and drive forward shared goals of closing the digital divide to maximize the social, environmental, and economic benefits of equality of digital ultra-broadband for all globally. Under the theme "BDC Barcelona 2024," our summit will focus on the transformation of fixed broadband operators from telco to techco. Germany is growing slower than other industrialized nations, despite having many innovative companies. On the panel, Friedrich Merz (Chairman of the CDU), Christiane Benner (First Chairperson of IG Metall), Charlotte Finger (Managing Partner of Maschinenfabrik Mönninghoff), Markus Haas (CEO of o2 Telefónica), and Judith Wiese (Member of the Board of Siemens) discussed how to solve this challenge. They emphasized that technological innovations and solidarity are the foundation for economic success. Today is a great day to be part of KMD group and NEC corporation. Just back from vacation, and despite waking up to a terrible weather – I am thrilled to announce a quite remarkable piece of news achieved through a fantastic collaboration between KMD and NEC Corporation: We are launching KMD Connect in Japan! For the very first time, a KMD-developed IT solution is set to make a real impact on the Japanese market. This is a testament to the strong partnership between KMD and NEC, our shared commitment to innovation, and the great cooperation we have built over a few years. I am personally confident that the results will contribute to reshape the landscape of digital transformation in Japan. So, what is KMD Connect – and why are we launching it in Japan? KMD Connect is a specialized e-commerce solution that controls payment information, digital invoicing, and document digitization. We are currently handling more than 300 million digital documents annually across many international industry sectors. New legislation in Japan on digital invoicing comes into effect this October, and we expect KMD Connect to play a pivotal role in supporting this new regulation. This is going to mark a significant step in the continuing digital transformation of Japan, and we at KMD group are super proud that we can support NEC and Japan in this way as we also have supported Danish society for many years. Today’s news is also an exciting example of our commitment to international growth for the entire KMD Group. I'm on my way to the International Symposium on Forecasting, #isfconf2024. By train. Specifically, for now, by Deutsche Bahn. It turns out that this may not have been an optimal decision. The first train in my connection simply got canceled. Thank goodness I checked early enough to take an alternative 18 minutes earlier. My second train is over an hour late, so I would miss my connection at Basel SBB... except that this train now ends one stop short at Basel Badischer Bahnhof instead of Basel SBB. So rather than "missing my connection, having to take the one two hours later", this turns into "having an hour to get from Basel Bad to Basel SBB", which won't be a problem and almost sounds like a Good Thing. Of course my mandatory seat reservation in the French TGV is gone now, since I have to take the train two hours later. And no, the people at the Deutsche Bahn desks could not make a new reservation for me. Because, you see, it's SNCF, and we are in Germany. It's not like we are in the 21st century or something. I fully expect traveling to next year's ISF in Beijing to be less of a hassle. If I get to the airport by train, that is. Perhaps I will drive next time. EDIT: Fun fact - in Basel, SBB CFF FFS immediately exchanged my ticket to Dijon for a new one. With a new seat reservation. For free. Without my even having to stand in line. Next time someone asks me why I work in Switzerland rather than in Germany, I will have an answer. (Also, the gentleman behind the counter grinned as he told me that this is a day like every other with the German trains: three quarters of them are late or don't arrive at all.)
